| WOW..24 pages later and the debate is still not about OP's questions about distractions. |
| It will always be the case that donut hole families will pass over elite privates for state flagships. It’s also the case that, if money weren’t an issue, many of those same families would choose the elite private in a heartbeat (just as full pay and FA families routinely do now). So, no, it’s not a referendum on the prestige of the private school. It’s a story about different families with different resources and priorities. What makes it so fraught is some people in that middle place, who are making a rational choice given their circumstances, feel aggrieved or defensive because their demographic (whose HHI is in the six figures) considers itself quite successful and this is the moment when there starts to look like there may be a categorical divide among upper middle class families based on ability to pay. And there’s a claim that which side of the divide your kids end up on will affect their life chances. |
Imbicile alert!!! More people buy a Toyota Camry than a Rolls Royce for very valid reasons. That says nothing about the Rolls Royce or the Toyota Camry, but you would not know that because you sir are a Moron. Also comparing two schools by the average salary earned by their grads, is another idiotic way to choose schools. Just because school A's alums earn better than school B's alums doesn't mean that You will earn a higher income if you go to school A. Averages are treacherous. If school A's alums include a Gates child or a Buffet kid or a Trump love child, that will affect the average without adding a dime to your income if you land up there. Also most of these salaries are self-reported. Joining a basketball team will not make you any taller, even though the average basketball player is much taller than most people. The average income of its graduates is similarly a very shaky basis for choosing a college. See the problem here? Of Course not. You are a moron.... There are many good reasons to choose UVA over UChicago: To avoid academic mismatch, costs, closeness to home, major, etc etc. That doesn't make UVA a better school. It just means that it fits some students better. God only knows UChicago should not be the only school anyone aspires to. That would be silly. Moving on..... |
No one is disputing the quality of Chicago. It's hysterical responses such as your that's making people wonder... |
Also, UVA tries to select a more healthy, well-rounded student - the leaders of tomorrow who also have 4.44 and 35 ACTs - whereas Chicago has always been more number oriented. |
That’s well above the average act for that school. |

| HYPS are no-brainers over UVA. And likely Penn, Duke & Notre Dame over UVA. But not Chicago. Kids there are miserable and there's no salary or employment data to justify it. |
LOL. That's random.
|
Um, thats a NO on Notre Dame being an obvious choice over UVA. Nice try lumping in with HYPS.
|
| No way I would waste four years at Chicago. |
| Thank g_d! |
If you’re not very smart and willing to work hard, then UChicago would be a waste of your time. |
it would truly be a waste of a seat at UChicago for you to attend in place of a truly motivated, talented and diligent student; your lack of curiosity, inability to analyze dispassionately, and reason to a nuanced conclusion while respecting the limitations of the accessible data and the motivations of your fellow scholars would single you out as monumentally deficient to contribute to the community.
