I think this gives another perspective for verbal than the WISC. You have nothing to lose by appealing. If your child gets in, you can still decide to wait a year to transfer to level IV. If your DC doesn't get in, you can request a CogAT retake next year. You have the opportunity to wrap up the process in a month instead of going through a retake and the committee process all over again next year. I'd submit the appeal so you don't second guess if you should have. Again, You lose nothing be appealing.

+1

I wouldn't appeal unless I felt pretty confident he'd get in. This is because the committee then has this score in the kid's records which will be considered when you (presumably) reapply next year. Why not do a separate posting asking those who appealed and got in in prior years what the WISC was. That's really the only piece of information you need. It would be confusing to get all information (Cogat, NNAT, GBRS and WISC stats) - just get the WISC score and evaluate if you think your child will likely get in. I know my friend's child did not get in with a 126 BUT if lots of people posted that their child got in with a 126, I'd feel more confident about it.

My child was not in pool and had a FSIQ of 130 on WISC. The AART told me she thought it would be a stretch for the committee to allow my child in. We submitted it with first round and she was in. They look at more than the WISC score, they look at the total package and my DD had great work samples and recommendation letters.

I hope your local level IV option is a center away from the school you are at. That AART is very wrong and to put a kid with a 130 WISC as not getting in is disconcerting to say the least.

I don't think that's true. My DC's packet this year did not contain anything from last year.

At the screening level it is true. It wouldn't be seen in what was copied and given to you unless your school copied the paper that goes in the folder summarizing the student. If so, you'd see that info.

They give you a copy of what is sent to the committee, including a sheet with the test scores. The old scores aren't on it.

Do the appeal process file need to go through AART or can be sent directly to the committee as listed in the appeal form. Not sure if there are pros and cons to either, but first time for when the file was sent through school - it did not have good samples.

Hi

We had moved from loudoun county to fairfax county last year. We are appealing with last year COGAT scores. Her Composite is 136.

Also, we are planning for WISC V next week. Will the fairfax county accept last year COGAT results ?

Please Let us know.

How uncommon is a 15 or 16 GBRS?

Was the test within one year?

It should be sent directly to the address listed on the appeal form, not the AART.

Does that matter? I know someone who parent referred with the previous year's test scores and new GBRS, no new test scores.

I posted upthread and several posters encouraged me to appeal (was not planning to until this thread convinced me otherwise and am still on the fence a little bit). We just did a WISC test and the FSIQ was 126. The psychologist also suspects DC might have some other issues which are not major, but she is recommending we follow up with the school. I don't know if it's better to wait and retake the CogAt next year after that has been addressed or just appeal this year and hope for the best?!

There's no reason not to do both. It's a clean slate next year. Why not appeal now (you already did the WISC) and if in the fall you want to DC can retake the CogAt and try again.

Appeal now. DS had identical WISC and was accepted.

PP. Ok, thank you. Do you recommend sending just the WISC alone or also sending work samples and letters of recommendation and all of that, as well? The psychologist did offer to write a letter of recommendation, which was very kind. What did you do on the appeal?

My DS has identical score on WISC, planning to appeal. However VCI is relatively low (average), though FRI (99%) and VSI (96) are higher, will low VCI hold against him.
