I am the OP and I have not yet been to chic filet, though they gave me a coupon for a sandwich. The takeaway is that there should be more police institutional and community coordination and cooperation to maintain a shared and walkable, shoppable, passthroughable neighborhood. That's the message

We are a mixed race family by the way. My children's grandfather (living)and his wife broke many professional and social barriers, including interracial marriage (AA/white) when it was illegal in many places and they avoided travel through some states. We just want a peaceable neighborhood for our kids. We think we have the right to advocate for that when we see an opportunity for betterment. Shocking I guess.

You have every right to advocate for that. You have zero right to bar "non-familiar faces" from your neighborhood. Your race and your children's grandparents are totally irrelevant.

Lady, wise up. Wilson is a neighborhood school, like all other DCPS schools. No one OOB has an inalienable right to study here, especially if they can't commit to pretty common behavior standards.

Don't like it? Send your kinds to your own neighborhood school.

+1. Well said. This OOB kids should act like they appreciate being at Wilson. It's obviously better than the alternative.

We are so glad for you. Why aren't your kids so glad to live there?

Why do you assume my kids don't like it here?

Because you seem to be very interested in a Wilson thread.

So, you don't live here, and your kids presumably don't come to Wilson. Why are you posting here?

I used to live in Cleveland Park and experienced racism every single day. Happiest day of my life when I left. Love seeing the proof of your racism even though you're too ignorant to see it.

PS- you have displayed worse behavior here than anything I have ever seen in Tenleytown during dismissal.

Also if the Mayor could make sure only white people are allowed in, that would be great, thanks. Any Browns can take that underground tunnel to and from their miserable homes, but only after they clean our houses/fix stuff/garden/etc. No jobs that would make them uppity, thanks.

You two are real assholes of you think that's what other posters here believe.

Really? Then what precisely is the statement below, posted by a PP, intended to suggest?

Point 3 is huge. In other words, if people not from Tenleytown did not go there, 94% of the crime would not take place.

And we wonder why neighbors up there are concerned about seeing non-familiar faces?

You live in a city. You will see "non-familiar faces" there. (You'd actually see them in the suburbs too, fwiw.) If you want to be somewhere that "non-familiar faces" are not permitted to access, you will have to move to a heavily fortified gated community. I'm sure there is a right-wing compound somewhere in Idaho with a Chick Fil A that never restricts table service. Move, please.

I like you PP

Plus one billion.

I posted the juvenile arrest data. I'm disappointed in both camps of posters: the one(s) who are making racist comments, and also the ones who are accusing everyone who raises concerns about crime of being racist. Neither of you are advancing the discussion - you both are acting like bigots.

Sorry data poster. That was not aimed at you. I too am disappointed by all the bigoted comments and can't help but wonder why so many want to derail a discussion about making a shared space safer.

There are kids that go to Wilson that don't live in the neighborhood and aren't OOB.

Again you are making two huge assumptions.

1) that the misbehaved students you see are OOB
2) that crime is commited by Wilson students.

How about those who've seen this place during dismissal and see that the complaints are overblown? Why don't you get back to complaining about leaf blowers?
Anonymous
Geezus if it bothers you all so much just get your frigging picket signs out (NO OOB's) and protest outside Wilson at dismissal. You'll be able to draw some media attention to the matter and maybe have your voices heard by some people who can actually do something about it. I mean do you actually expect something to get done based on your anonymous incessant bitching on social media? If you're lives are at risk the way you depict and those damn dark-skinned adolescents are wreaking havoc the way you describe then for crying out loud do something about it - besides bitch.

What's the issue with the school and police acknowledging that criminal mischief takes place during the congestion of dismissal and having more of a presence? The school by urging the students to be good neighbors and the police by providing proactive enforcement presence? Neighbors need to picket for this??

It's evident over these 24 pages that something needs to be done to get rid of the OOB's. That's been the overwhelming sentiment - they're not wanted, period. Not going to get rid of them by adding more law enforcement or by businesses augmenting their policies. If people don't want the OOB's then only course of action is to protest their presence. I know it's cozier in the confines of cyberspace to just bitch and whine online but if you want something done going to have to drop the guise of anonymity and express your sentiments out in public.

Please come to the Wilson are at dismissal. There are already police. I see them standing bored and chatting every day? Why? Because the kids of issues discussed in this thread or very, very rare (in my considerable experience, non-existent).

It is evident that a lot of people who I don't think have ever been there think that. It is evevident to me when I am in the area every afternoon that the posters on this thread who want to get rid of OOB students have never set foot in the school.

Exactly. They should act like scholars and athletes, not predators and sociopaths.

Why do you assume they are OOB for Wilson? It has a large boundary that extends well beyond upper NW DC. It is not a "neighborhood" school-- to the extent that most high schools have large enough boundaries that will encompass more than one neighborhood.
