Hi Whitney!! |
It's not that I think she has some great qualities. I don't, really. But she's not so much worse than most of the rest of them and I don't like hypocrites, or people who are unkind to others. Cameran wasn't exactly a model of refinement when she was on Real World as a young 20-something. Landon is every bit as unemployed as Kathryn. Pat and Whitney are every bit as financially dependent on others as Kathryn (Pat "earned" her money through some strategic marriages, and Whitney is the beneficiary of her "talent"). I bet Pat wasn't at home tucking in wee Whitney every night, abstaining from alcohol and cooking his meals and giving him each bath. She gets a pass why? Because she has superior manners, because she managed to get married to a wealthy man before having his child, because her family could pay for "help" so that she could be a socialite attending parties while someone else tended her child? And Shep is every bit as sexually promiscuous as Kathryn and just as irresponsible with birth control. And Thomas is every bit (if not more) unstable and addicted to substances. I tend to favor underdogs. I realize Kathryn made and continues to make bad decisions that have put her in the position she's in, but I don't think it's right to kick someone when they're down or to relish in someone else's collapse, even if your judgement of that person is being vindicated. That's just small, petty, and mean. There is nothing genteel about the way Pat, Whitney, JD, Landon, Cameran talk about Kathryn. She is a young 20-something who just had two babies in quick succession with a man who is mentally unstable, yet powerful and wealthy enough to carry through on his threats to ruin her life. Bad, bad choice, compounded by more bad choices on her part. But I have empathy for her. I was pretty dumb and irresponsible at her age. Not as dumb, nor as irresponsible. But still, I was no virgin tettotaller. If pot weren't illegal, I'd still partake. I have almost two decades of maturity on Kathryn, but I recognize that I may not have made the same choices I make now (such as forgoing illegal substances I once enjoyed for fear of jail and loss of custody) if I were single and hanging out with the circle of single partying friends I had at 20 and I had two nannies to leave the kids safely with for a night on the town. If Kathryn were independently wealthy (from family money) and more polished, or if she were a man, I don't think she's be subject to the same criticism as she is. All the criticism reads to me more like snobbishness/sexism rather than genuine concern for Kathryn, Thomas, or their kids. |
That is such a lame post. It's up there with "hit a nerve." You really need to work harder in the "clever" department. |
|
^^ nope I'm not Whitney. And you cut off the part where I said I wish Patricia had been nicer to Kathryn.
I bet Patricia is fun to hang out with. And I googled Suzanne Kent Cooke and wasn't so convinced after I read about her. But I am also a shep and Cameron fan. So we probably don't see eye to eye on any of the southern charm cast. |
If all Kathryn did was make some poor choices, that would be one thing. But she makes poor choices AND acts like a complete raving lunatic bitch to everyone who crosses her path and dares to question her choices. I wont' get into each of your points one-by-one but just to take one example, maybe Shep is as promiscuous as Kathryn (no maybe about it, I'd say) but someone in his couplings is being responsible about birth control since there aren't little sheps toddling around. And yes, others try to marry for money (Patricia, looking at you) but they maybe act like sane human beings during that process? Just sayin' that Kathryn appears to be an absolute horror show so she is judged as such. There are lots of single moms out there who are civil and don't run around rolling their eyes and telling everyone to fuck off. |

However, I think she has severe mental problems that need attention, so I don't think it's nice for the other cast members to pile on. A previous poster hit it on the head when they said Thomas was "gas lighting" her. He is a bad person who is exploiting Kathryn's mental problems. I feel sorry for Kathryn. I don't feel sorry at all for Whitney, Landon, Cameran. They act like victims, and in the same breath abuse Kathryn. Patricia is a pathetic old hag. And by the way, wasn't particularly good looking in her youth. |
Completely agree. |
Nah. Thomas isn't stupid and has the money to pay for the right legal counsel. He knew this test would be coming and just stopped doing drugs for a bit. Remember he's been down this road before with drugs. He knows how to time a test. |
| agree with pp. Thomas is a snake. don't care what his "pedigree is" means nothing to me. |
|
If the likes of Thomas, Patricia, Whitney, Camaron are
"more than" me, then I have don't want to me "more than" I am. |
Completely disagree. *Mostly because I'm not an elitist.* |
Wow! looks like I hit a nerve there, Whitney. Calm down son. Go back to playing your music darling. |
How did you google your way here Kathryn? |
|
Yes, I know Kathryn has her issues, but I feel for her. She's a very young woman, thrust in the spotlight, with some pretty substantial emotional/mental issues. She's ill equipped for the show. I just want her to get some space and work on herself and her children. I don't think she realizes how bad she needs this for herself.
And yes, I know the spotlight and her actions and all of her own making. But she's young. And not quite balanced, so I'm not sure she'll can help this. |
Like most men, I would bet that he relies on the women in these scenarios, but I could be wrong. He did seem to have a moment of doubt when Kathryn had her first pregnancy scare that he "could" be the father, which is why I made the statement. I suppose he could have had his doubts even if he took all precautions. I don't actually dislike Shep. Of the group, he seems to be one of the more down-to-earth and aware of his extraordinary privilege. |
