38, fed, just got a promotion to GS-14. But I see others in their late 20s and early 30s making the same and feel like a chump for not seeking promotions more aggressively when I was younger.

I'm one of the young feds who got my 14 at 27. Pretty sure its only cause I work at dhs at hq. First decade of the department, loosey goosey hiring and hr certifications. They're cracking down hard right now, I think it would be way harder for me to get it today than it was even 4 years ago.

But it's true what they say, you can't sit around waiting for a grade, have to hop hop hop

I made $165k at 23 in sales. Definitely set expectations high for the future and, as the saying goes, more money more problems.

Me, probably never, unless I change careers - 48, education.

You need to teach on Long Island, NY. Teachers at 15 years make 100K.

I hit $100k when I was 34. I'm 46 and will make 240 in 2016. C level at a nonprofit.

Good point about moving up quickly in DHS. The same could be said at DNI.

After starting a business, we doubled our income in the last two years. In 2016 we grossed around $77k. That includes my husband's LE salary. We expect to hit six figures within the next two years. We are very saving, and live below our means. We own three homes (two rentals), and three cars. We've only been married for six years. When you work together, you can build something amazing.
