In the past a 2 hour delay turned the day into a Normal release time.

Why on earth would they bring kids in on Wednesday? It would be a complete waste.

Ill be honest, I won't send my kids if it's only Wednesday. We have a trip planned for the days off and I wouldn't risk them getting sick for a 2 hour early release Wednesday with 2 days off on either side. Let's be real (at the elementary level at least) they aren't doing more than watching a movie if they have school Wednesday.

After winter break last year didn’t they go in for just a 2 hour delay Friday?

They plowed but more sleet and snow covered it up.

Yes and teachers are supposed to be there Thursday.

It’s heavily sleeting now. I am worried. It’s supposed to do this all day.

The difference is that there will be four days following without school (Thursday, Friday plus the weekend.) Last year, there was just the weekend (two days). Kids had a delayed opening on Friday and then were back at school on Monday.

I'm calling it right now, closed for the week.

Absolutely yes!

Nah.

This is such a let down.

They will have the roads clear by Monday morning

They should just announce the closing at this point. We were out clearing out driveway and were the only people out there except for one home at the other end of the street. My kid teaches private lessons on Saturdays and half her students canceled, so I presume a lot of people just took the week off and went out of town since it's only a 2 and a half-day week for students anyway. which means anything that's taught will have to be retaught due to the huge number of absences.

But FCPS could easily change that.

Ice is coming down hard now in Rockville, MD.

Given the temps all week there will not be school at least til Thursday more likely next Monday.

Plows are out on main roads doing a great job given as soon as they plow the road ices over

There’s genuinely no rush. You know it’s canceled. An announcement is a pro forma thing.

By the time I had cleared the snow we basically had another layer of ice.

It's obvious that there shouldn't be school tomorrow, and there won't be. Tuesday/Wed will be dependent on how fast things can get cleared after the sleet stops. Whatever happens, let's just all try to be calm about it and recognize that the most important thing is safety. Missing a few days of school is annoying and stressful for parents who have to get back to work, but your kid can still be on track for TJ/Harvard/ the White House, even with this minor inconvenience. Just make sure they do some independent reading.

So…any bets on when they are announcing?

I say 3 pm.
