She’s talking to the NY Times. She didn’t think how that would come across? Lack of self awareness seems to be a family trait. |
I mean, they ended up arresting him when they did because it looked like he was cleaning out the car in the middle of the night. That might have been the plan. But, and he probably knew it, at that point the main damage had already been done. For Kohberger, the main problem with the car is that it put him on the police's radar by simply owning it. |
It comes across to me as a family trying to cling to some kind of normalcy even though they'll never have a "normal" family event again. It just sounds sad. |
They really should have just said nothing. It’s too soon. Like the Klebold family until the mom wrote her book. But for a long while nobody wants to hear from the family of the killer. |
| I wonder how many tens of thousands the family paid a crisis manager to come up with this whole narrative and article. I found the sister reasonably sympathetic and sort of agreed and understood the idea of still commemorating birthdays and sending support to her brother (because as the prisoner's family, that's their job, something no one else in the universe will care to do, understandably). But even still, it seems like changing her name and living a quiet life would be better. |
He had moved there over the summer from PA. In my state you only have a few months to get new plates, so he was supposed to update the car registration and plates. Also, why would WA plates on a car in a apartment building in WA make the parking employee suspicious? |

For you geniuses who can’t fathom that the family didn’t predict their son/brother would becomw a mass murderer—
Even if they could have predicted —good luck getting help…read about what parents of children who are actual KNOWN psychopaths (though term reserved for adults but showing signs of psychopathy as children) deal with….maybe educate yourselves and idk… don’t throw stones? Glass houses and all. https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2017/06/when-your-child-is-a-psychopath/524502/ |
Don’t throw stones? You frantic posters keep giving yourselves away. Much sympathy for the Kohbergs but not a peep about the actual victims. |
That wouldn't make for much of an interesting thread; of course everyone has sympathy for the victims. That literally goes without saying for most people. |
Not really. I remember people criticizing the more outspoken parents of the girls, the Goncalves family in particular. But people in here are acting extremely defensive. We can only wonder why. |

Ooh if I was that reporter, here are the questions I’d ask her:
Did your brother tell you why he did it? Over the holidays, did he show any sign of guilt, sadness, stress? Or was he the same as he’s always been? Did you ask your mom what she and he talked about in the hours after the murders? Does he feel any remorse for what he did? Are you mad at him for basically ruining your parents’ lives? Did the reporter not ask these questions or did she not want to answer them??? |
Really? You just don't share sympathy or empathy for victims because it "goes without saying?" You sound like the poster that doesn't think anyone should be hospitalized or kept away from the public because the rights of the mentally ill are the most important. . |
Brian Kohlberger did a horrible thing. But families of people like this can still love them and grieve the loss of the person they thought they knew. Their entire history with him is not erased. So many of you are so devoid of humanity. You seem unable to see the family of this person as ordinary people who have also lost something. Frankly, you hateful jerks are super weird if you have no connection to the victims. It's like you think you are part of the story. You're not. Grow up and grow some decency. There but for the Grace of God go you. |
DP. You are perhaps one of the most stupid people I have encountered on DCUM. Of course it goes without saying. What is wrong with you? And no one has said the rights of the mentally ill are most important, but neither can they be discounted. Are you always so unable to think with nuance? No critical thinking skills whatsoever, huh. |
+1 Their concern is more for the treatment and understanding of those who commit violent acts than their victims. |
