Kohberger first attempted to call his mother at 6:13 a.m.
When she didn't answer, he called his father at 6:14 a.m.
He successfully connected with his mother at 6:17 a.m. for a call that lasted 36 minutes.
Later that same day, he had another extensive call with his mother for 54 minutes at 8:03 a.m.

In total, Kohberger spent over three hours on calls with his parents that day.

But sure, they’re just a normal family and were shocked - shocked! - when the FBI raided their home.

Cite? I’m pretty deep into this and have read several books, and watcher multiple crime shows on it and haven’t heard this. It wasn’t in the arrest affidavit.

Testimony from a digital forensics expert, Heather Barnhart. I can’t find an official source though with her actual testimony. I thought it was widely assumed the reason he took the guilty plea instead of going through trial is so that his mother wouldn’t have to take the stand and reveal what was said on the calls.

100%, yes. I'm sure they threatened to go after the mother for aiding and abetting. If/when that comes out, the sister is going to look even worse because of this interview.

No one knows exactly why he pled guilty. Just speculation. He’ll take his secrets to his grave.

As someone married into a family with hidden mental illness and subsequent violence that they still deny, this story is crazy and also so familiar. It is astonishing to see how people can both be aware of a truth about a member of their nuclear family and also in total denial.
I assume that people like this never have to develop cognitive dissonance but instead it’s just a standard state of living that they’re raised in from infancy/toddlerhood so their brains become wired to assume it as normal.

No, reports from multiple sources indicate that he was definitely not normal. Which doesn’t preclude him being nice to his sister, and being given a standard upbringing.

He is not normal, is she?

Not even close.

She is another blue-haired psycho. Not even close to anything resembling normal.

The mother probably knows.

There's a decent chance Kohlberger will be killed in prison at some point. Maybe after that she'll speak up.

He took a plea deal that took the death penalty off the table.

Is that desirable from the defendant's point of view? I would think most people would prefer a needle to life in prison, no?

Just look at her: she’s another blue-haired weirdo. Not surprising her brother turned out to be a serial killer.

Ok, we’ve heard from you twice now. It’s clear you disapprove of blue hair. It’s not relevant to this case or this family at all.

In short, the family was shocked. He probably has autism. Their lives are destroyed but not as bad as the victims.

Nothing new that we didn’t know before.

I don’t get how the family was shocked when the siblings suspected him that Christmas and secretly searched his car after noticing he was wearing latex gloves around the house. I don’t read the article but that clearly tells us they were suspicious. I think they even brought it up with the parents.

She said in the NYT that she was afraid for his safety after the murders (killer on the loose) So she must not have been suspicious until later.

She said all the right things (she thinks of the victims at holidays, she remembers their birthdays, etc) but the one thing Goncalves’ father wants - to know what the family knew, what happened in their house after the raid, etc - she’s not willing to give him. She’s holding back and thinking of herself and not what the victim families need.

And I sense she’s holding back. Normal people don’t snap like that. I bet he tortured pets, had no friends, and never showed emotion to his family. And they just ignored it and she’s all, we had a great upbringing! He was a great brother! Give me a break.

Yep, that was my takeaway, too. I don't know why she thought it would be a good idea to do that interview.

I also thought it was not believable that she didn’t think it was his car due to the year. She knew he drove a white car and that model, and he lived 15 min away from the house where the women were killed, but didn’t suspect because it said 2011-2013 and he had a 2015.

Well then why did she tell him—privately—to be careful about jogging alone because this killer was on the loose.

I think she sounded credible. Poor family.

The daughter could have been.

People convince themselves that there is a huge chasm between families who raise psychopaths and their own. I am afraid that there really is not.

Weird that you're defending a murderer and the parents who tried to help cover it up.
