This is actually fake news. The ADs of the schools were already aware of the MOU. This is BS fabricated by ND hater Dan Woken who is still mad because the ND coaches and players threw him out of the locker room after he harassed a player who didn't want to talk to him last year. |
LOL in your dreams...the got some 5 stars in the class of 26 for example. As much as you would like to see them fail, they will come out of this even mightier. |
|
When I questioned what impact this fiasco might have on recruiting, I wasn't even talking about whether potential recruits would look at ND's schedule to consider whether the team offers the right proving ground for NFL play.
I literally just wonder if the stench of this mess will turn people off and if football recruits (or academic stars) will look elsewhere because of the negative PR. When they first announced the bracket and there was immediate grumbling about ND's absence, I actually think the response was a bit more balance -- some people thought they'd been screwed and some thought it was fair. I saw a number of commentators openly question the process because ND had been ranked within the top 12 but was out of the CFP, so on the surface at least it seemed screwy. Then ND made a series of decisions that just made them look AWFUL and now almost no one is on their side. When the player voted to skip a bowl game, it looked a little petty but people were still pretty understanding. The initial statements from ND, including Bevaqua, were of the "we're just shocked" variety and didn't seem that vindictive. But then Bevaqua went on his self-pity tour which got increasingly embarrassing, and now we're a few days on and NO ONE is on Notre Dame's side. They look like petty losers and their head coach is chatting with with the NY Giants and the linebackers coach already departed for Michigan State. If I'm a top high school recruit, I'm looking at that mess and just thinking "huh, perhaps I look elsewhere this year." It's not even about the program or their opponents (ND is still an elite program and will be a contender for the CFP next year regardless of what happens with this MOU). It's just... the stench of loserdom. Plus you have to go live in South Bend. |
You forget -- they have Marcus Freeman. The players and actually the entire school community love him. Great coach. Give the first episode of Here Come the Irish a watch...it really gives you the insight into the rich culture of program. |
| It speaks volumes that former NFL players are lining up their kids to play for Freeman. |
Please elaborate. Which former NFL players ? (And nobody is"lining up". Attractive D-1 schools include Notre Dame, Stanford, Duke, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, and Michigan if the family is looking for a valuable college degree from an academically exceptional school. |
Wow you are really grasping at a lot of straws for your conclusions. Just give it a rest. |
You might want to do a Google search before spouting off. There’s on article after another about ND being the preferred school for sons of former NFL players. This year’s class of 27 has 4 among them. And it’s nothing new. |
Um, ESPN and NYT even say so. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/40380511/notre-dame-football-nfl-veterans-sons https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5277896/2024/02/15/notre-dame-football-is-where-sons-of-pros-come-to-play-the-mecca-of-college-football/ From Google AI: Many Notre Dame players have NFL dads, including recent commits like Devin Fitzgerald (son of Larry Fitzgerald) and current players like Jordan Clark (son of Ryan Clark) and Howard Cross III, part of a strong tradition of NFL legacies such as Jerome Bettis Jr. and Elijah Burress, showing Notre Dame is a top spot for sons of pro players. Here are a few notable examples: Jordan Clark: Son of Steelers safety and ESPN analyst Ryan Clark, Jordan plays safety for the Irish. Devin Fitzgerald: Wide receiver and son of legendary Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald, recently committed to Notre Dame. Howard Cross III: A current Irish player whose father, Howard Cross II, won a Super Bowl with the Giants. Jerome Bettis Jr.: Son of the Hall of Fame running back, also plays for Notre Dame. Elijah Burress: A wide receiver whose father is former NFL star Plaxico Burress. This trend highlights Notre Dame's appeal to families with strong NFL backgrounds, creating a unique environment with deep football lineage. |

So many ND haters. I actually get it. I’m an alum and I can understand why the haters are so put off by the sanctimony and superiority that the school’s PR machine projects. Hell, even the “What would you fight for” segments that the school runs during the games on NBC are a step above anything you’re gonna see from other schools.
But no matter how much you hate the school, it’s undeniable that not only does it remain “relevant” when it comes to college football, it’s probably in as strong as position talent wise and coaching wise as it has been for decades. ND isn’t going anywhere. The haters might as well get used to it. |

What’s weird is that ND is not even the best team in Indiana….
That’s gotta hurt the ego. |
ND beat Indiana the last time they played. Less than a year ago. |
Yet…<checks notes> Indiana is #1 in the country and ND is done. Zilch. |
Sure, no one disputes that last year's ND team was great -- they made it to the championship game. However this year's team was not quite good enough to make the CFP, which happens -- teams change and every year is different. And instead of accepting that, licking their wounds, and focusing on next year, they've taken a big old pity poop in front of the whole country and expect us to eat it. No thank you. Please shut up and try again next year. |
If only they had beat Miami this year. |
