Anyone touring top schools and finding then all to be dumpy and unimpressive?

Then why don't you show them?

Then after you do I will point out again how you keep moving the goalposts, esp wrt to the thread topic.

But you go ahead and support your claim first.

NP why would people be denying that these schools have these issues, instead of pushing them to resolve them with their tax advantaged billions. why gaslight these issues? is Big College lobbying on DCUM? So weird

My first post in this thread was the one at 12:07 on July 21, so I had nothing to do with any goalposts in your warped mind.

You posted exactly one top college that mentions mice (not rats, but I won't prosecute that GIANT discrepancy). Berkeley.

One.

Sounds like you're the one moving goalposts.

Because nearly all schools have these issues.

Because nearly all urban areas have these issues.

Because at worst it is being weaponized as part of the anti-intellectual position against America's finest colleges and at best it is petty sour grapes. It's clear you are the former as you whine about "tax advantaged billions" but seem to have no problem with any other type of non-profit. Why is that?

Oh, really?

No, sorry.

Here was post you responded to:

Now we’ve gone from “dumpy and unimpressive” to “mold in hallways” to “rats and not fit for a dog”. Can you let me know where these rat-infested dorms not fit for a dog are, please? Yes I know Georgetown had mold problems. Be specific.

Big difference between "rat infested and not fit for a dog" and one public urban top college with mice, wouldn't you say?

And remember this discussion started WRT FINANICAL AID versus FANCY DORMS, hence the moving goalposts by your side.

It's too costly (if simply not electrically possible) to add AC to most older dorms (think 40+ years old). The electrical infrastructure cannot handle it.

I cannot find any T15 that does. PP likely does not have a kid there and just trying to trash elite schools.

$18K is about the cost at most elite schools.

My kid is at a T40, living in a college apartment and still has to have a $3K/semester meal plan. Which is down right ridiculous, but it's how they make money. Also something to do with financial aide for those that need it---if they have a "lower plan as an option" (ie. $500/semester which is more reasonable for most in an apartment), something to do with then kids cannot get FA for a higher plan. Either way its ridiculous my kid is in a 4 bed/4 bath apartment with a full kitchen (with a dishwasher) yet needs the same plan as when they were in a dorm with a tiny tiny floor kitchen for 35 people.

Make sure to add the residential college fee and the $1500 student experience fee and you arrive at $25k. It’s sickening and you can’t opt out

You know that when you apply to the school

IMO, I actually am happy to pay the extra and am glad my kid is at a school where 80% live on campus all 4 years. Much safer than the surrounding area and better to deal with the university as "landlord" than some college area slumlord.

I don't have a side and I'm not the one who said "rat infested and not fit for a dog."

Then you responded out of context and did not read the thread you replied to? OK, fine.

You know you’re paying for access to expert in dozens of fields for your kid, right? That’s expensive.

But if you value amenities so much, go to High Point and call it a day.

“Access”, but these experts don’t even teach their own classes. They don’t care about teaching, much less teaching well, and they do the bare minimum for your student to keep their cush lifestyle.

It’s a total scam, OP.

DP. No other non-profit is requesting $300K+ for the privilege of hanging out for 4 years.

Time for this thread, and the impacted schools, to "rot in peace".

The sour grapes accusers are taking the thread off-topic.

Kid at an ivy has AC in freshman dorms and so did most of the other elite schools we toured

Which one? Many do not. Yale has 1 residential college with AC that they intentionally "shut off" out of fairness according to a tour guide. Many other top colleges like Amherst do not have AC for freshman. Even some west coast colleges don't have ac.

This sounds like a student rumor and not fact. Don't be gullible.

It is a fact. Read the linked post. The newest colleges have designs that could have AC for all those students, but it's unfair to the other residential colleges.
