There’s no such thing as a free lunch and in this situation with early closing Mondays, the “free” childcare that’s not SACC is going to be your DC running around in the gym while some disengaged substitute hired for just such purpose “supervises” for 2 hours. It’s a shit*ty gig disguised as a Covid-era “assistant.” Your DC will hate the arrangement and beg you to make other plans (or be home alone for a few hours) so as to avoid this mess. |
I don't....... but again we lost 2+ years of school because of COVID. They need to be back at school. |
Note that for Loudoun the 4 days effect the entire school system (preK-12, not just elementary schools). Also, in the case of Loudoun (where I live), I wouldn't necessarily say that in May they framed the message as seeking input. More, an email was sent out saying that there was a plan under serious consideration to have numerous late arrival Wednesdays during the upcoming school year for the trainings (again for the entire school system). They didn't start off by sending out a survey or anything like that. Then, there was such a massive backlash that LCPS retreated on the early release plan and came up with the new plan. |
And what does that have to do with the teacher’s trip to the post office? And how is it this teacher’s fault that Covid happened? Or any teacher’s fault? Do you think teachers actually have that much power to close schools? (The answer is no, but they sure have had to take the blame. It’s easy to blame teachers, I know.) And when are you going to move on? My eyes can’t roll enough. |
The Virginia literacy act is adding required training that teachers have to complete. In addition to the other required training and professional development from FCPs/VDOE
Most of you parents complain about incompetent teachers and inadequate instruction. So this will help address that. So stop*#%^** about giving teachers time to get the training. |
Part of the point is that the bleeping colleges should have taught the teachers how to teach reading in the first place. Science of reading has been known by many names, but it's been known for 4 decades at least. Direct instruction (the way Benchmark is at least supposed to work) has been proven to work for 5 decades. This is not new information, it's just new to people who weren't taught. |

And this post office interaction was in 2012, eight years prior to COVID, not a great correlation. I see so many exaggerated timelines (stop saying 2+ years.) It was from March 2020 to March 2021 (1 year), if your kid didn’t return in March of 2021 it because YOU choose virtual. Even if I use to September 2021 as a start date, it was still a year and a half (including 2 summers in that timeframe). |
Do you mean one year? Because my kid was out of school from mid-March 2020 to mid-March 2021. Where was yours? |
+1 Don’t forget the part about losing “2+years” of school. |
+1 Our teachers created and recorded lessons to finish out April-June 2020. Students were still submitting assignments and getting feedback. My kids were then online the next year until they went back in March or April. It wasn’t ideal, but it was something and didn’t span 2 years. |
Great! Then get of this webpage and go reprogram all the educational programs in America! Also, think of a plan for every teacher in the US who didn’t major in elementary Ed. I’ve been teaching for over 20 years. I majored in mathematics and computer science. Started off in MS, I have been teaching 2nd grade for the past 10 years. There are quite a few of us out there who don’t have a degree in elementary education. |
In mid-March 2021, my kid went back for 2 days of in-person school, but still had 2 days of virtual school. And every Monday off for teacher workdays. But maybe your FCPS school was different. Mine was just a 2nd grader. |
Yes, A decent percentage of the schools had the same kids there four days a week instead of the rotating two days a week. Those decisions were based on CDC guidelines on social distancing and spacing in the classrooms. Again, not FCPS or teachers fault. |
Teachers don’t have enough time during the day to do everything!!!! That is why they need the extra time. Not to mention the county keeps changing the curriculum on teachers. |
