“ While these are designated as early release days — where necessary — we will ensure that every student has supervised enrichment activities at the school and returns home at the regular time if that is what works best for your family.”

That means that SACC will be open and maybe expanded for those who need it on those days.

And will they create a special category of SACC for people who just need it on these days?

It sucks for parents, but this is the only way to get teachers to show up. Otherwise they'd just be taking long weekends.

That makes most sense. But sucks for parents so much. I wonder why they couldn't do full days, so we could at least plan a long weekend somewhere fun and educational.

Taking away early release Mondays 8 or 9 years ago was a mistake and caused problem. So they should return to that.

I agree. It was mistake to get away from it.

We're going to take advantage and take long weekends. There will be NO learning on 3 hour early release days, none.

I love how they waited until everyone left for vacation before they sent the email. Cowards.

Discussed at last nights SB meeting (6-13).

Well hopefully they will include those signed up for before care in the same way that before care only kids can attend SACC on full day teacher workdays. I didn't sign up for SACC aftercare given there was I believe only 2 early release days in the original calendar, and I can be done with work by the time my kids get home with an on time release. It's a lot easier to plan around 2 early releases than 9!

This is super shitty for the families like mine that didn’t sign up for sacc because we’ve figured out how to barely make the calendar and schedule work with our two work schedules, and now we are going to be stuck on seven separate days. The sign ups for sacc started months and months ago, when this wasn’t a factor. That’s bullshit.

Y'all are so dramatic. This isn't every Monday. It's 7, spread out through the year.

Some of y'all are just mad this cuts in to your pilates time.

October 28 and November 25 are such asinine dates to do this. The week of November 25 is already a 2 day school week, and there’s an early release on October 31 with school closed on November 1.

If you look at the calendar and surrounding holidays, some of these dates are a complete joke. Like the whole week is a waste several times for our assigned dates.

They said there will be care available at the schools for families who need it. No word on what that looks like but they claim it will be available. It's not ideal but anyone who heard about the backlash in Loudon knew something like this was coming for FCPS. Maybe VDoE/Richmond should have planned this in a way that doesn't make schools need to add so many additional training hours.

It wasn’t long ago that many ES had half day Mondays the entire year. The pendulum may be swinging back.

Principals and teachers have been working on the proposal. It’s a process that takes time.
