Just received this message about 7 3 hour early release Mondays next school year:
https://www.fcps.edu/family-resources/safety-...arly-release-mondays I have lots of thoughts, including why not FRIDAYS because this is very disruptive to the entire family. But looking forward to a good discussion… |
WTAF is this. Do they not want our kids to actually learn? My 1st grader has done nothing for 2 weeks as it is. Along with 4 day weeks seemingly every other week. Reid is a joke. |
While they have added these one-a-month early release Mondays for the new curriculum training and other required meetings, they should add more for actual teacher planning time and collaboration if necessary.
Taking away early release Mondays 8 or 9 years ago was a mistake and caused problem. So they should return to that. |
(OP) My first grader didn’t learn a single thing this year. Like, his writing, iReady scores and love of reading actually got worse over the course of the year.
This is also going to be my first year without childcare and I was going to try to make it work, but now I’m feeling like I need coverage for these days as well. Between all of the holidays, teacher in service days, etc., learning is going to be SO disrupted and disjointed. |
Early release on Fri or late start Mondays are much better. Early release Mondays are the pits. |
I wish they would have done this on Fridays so we could get a jump start on the weekend. |
What the hell? Where was the public notice on this??? |
I'd rather just have 3-4 full days off. Easier for childcare, plus it's not like much learning happens on a half day anyway. |
What does this mean? Any guesses?
“ While these are designated as early release days — where necessary — we will ensure that every student has supervised enrichment activities at the school and returns home at the regular time if that is what works best for your family.” |
It's not on Friday because they want teachers to actually show up to work. If they did it on Fridays, the teachers would just leave early that day. Personally, I would prefer middle of the week like FCCPS but this is fine. It's going to suck for people who don't have regular childcare though. My kids get home at 4:15 normally and a lot of their friends parents don't have childcare, they just make sure they're home from work by 4:00. Not sure what they'll do now. I work from home and my kids are old enough to be alone for a few hours while I work, but it's going to be really hard for a lot of people. |
The stuff with LCPS was notice. Too bad they kicked us out of the Virginia Schools Forum, or more would be on the lookout for this. |
Nope, it's not Michelle Reid's fault, this is 100% GLENN YOUNGKIN'S fault. He passed the law requiring additional teacher planning time. Look it up: VIRGINIA LITERACY ACT. |
That means that SACC will be open and maybe expanded for those who need it on those days. |
What stuff with LCPS??? |
It sucks for parents, but this is the only way to get teachers to show up. Otherwise they'd just be taking long weekends. |
