Let's make up hypothetical scenarios of doooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom. |
The difference in commute from Parkwood to Einstein and Parkwood to WJ is three minutes. |
It’s not the Parkwood kids we’re talking about. It’s Town of Kensington neighborhood within short walking distance of Einstein. That said, I don’t think Einstein needs those kids. It’s already big enough, and has been a fantastic school for my two kids. (Go see Beauty and the Beast, playing now!!) |
The difference in driving time, from Kensington Parkwood ES to Einstein HS, and Kensington Parkwood ES to Walter Johnson HS, may be 3 minutes, but why would kids from the Town of Kensington walk to Kensington Parkwood ES on their way to Einstein HS? |
How is that "doom"? It happened literally just happened in HoCo and they are not "doomed". I'm just curious about what people think about the outcome. |
Kensington students who go to WJ must cross three major N-S highways: Conn. Ave., Rockville Pike, and Old Georgetown Road. From Kensington to Einstein requires crossing one not-so-major highway: Univ. Blvd. People living in north Kensington can hear the Einstein marching band on football nights. |
You don’t subsidize segregation. People choose to segregate themselves. They want to live in neighborhoods with their own ethnic groups. Desegregation is unnatural and costs lots of tax dollars for bussing and unnecessary emotional stress on people. Bussing failed decades ago and will never be successful. |
Don't discount University Boulevard. It's one of the county's worst state highways. However, MCPS currently expects non-TOK students to cross it, so presumably TOK students would also be expected to cross it. |
Damn you, Poe's Law! |
To a lesser extent, but where i have to object is these gerrymandered boundaries like take Wootton for example where 80% of the boundary is closer to another HS. This was done specifically to create a segregated boundary and this is just one of many such examples. |
Citation needed. |
easy just look at the boundaries it's self-evident |
It’s not at all. Many HS are all close together. Walking distance of Wootton doesn’t have many houses. There are a lot of people who are looking forward to this redistricting so they can benefit from being rezoned into Wootton. |
The real reason we have so much bussing in Montgomery County is suburban sprawl. If so many people didn't insist on living on massive lots with private parks behind their houses, everyone could live a lot closer to their school. There should be an extra school bus tax for people who live on big lots. |
What? Crown is being built a few miles north for hundreds of millions of dollars, and it's going to need people zoned to it to justify its existence. Who are you expecting to get redistricted INTO Wootton? |
