There are definitely more and less desirable kid casts. Anyone who says otherwise is new/naive. I don't think skill is the only or even primary differentiator, but kids who end up having issues are nearly always placed in the Emerald/Pearl casts & the best of the special/more differentiatable roles nearly always ends up with opening night or the tea party or both. I wouldn't be surprised if they throw SE kids some bones this year given the unrest.

My daughter was Ruby/Sapphire for years consistently. She got put in Emerald Pearl last year and was told specifically that they moved her there to try and pull up her group. She would rather go back to being the little fish in the large pond - rather than big fish in Pearl Pond
