I’m not living in fear. I work in the public everyday and have throughout the whole pandemic. I follow the recommendations and somehow I’ve yet to catch Covid. My family has also been Covid free as well as nearly all of my colleagues and friends. All by simply following some pretty simple guidelines like wearing a mask in public.

But if wearing a mask makes you look scared that is a pretty rational reason to not wear one.

And yes, mandates are lifting, in some places based on real data and set metrics but unfortunately for Virginia such metrics are not being used or at least communicated.

I’m vaxed and pretty certain that if I catch it now it will be quite mild but why do I want the hassle of catching it now and since I my family and myself have made it this far without catching it I’d kinda like to see that through.

But I can pull the receipts in this thread of all you non-mask wearing folks who have had Covid as well as family members. Funny how that works.

+100 us too. We're fully vaxxed and boosted, and wear N95/KN95 masks whenever we are near others, and it has kept all of us COVID-free.

Thank you. Our family is the same. I’m so happy to live in DC where people are not freaking out over the simple act of wearing a mask.

And, yet, the ones "freaking out" are the nuts who shout and accost others in public areas because they aren't wearing masks.

I am grateful to live in a southern state where the wearing of masks has been optional pretty much the entire pandemic and people who choose to wear masks don't assault those who choose not to wear a masks, and vice versa.

And, amazingly....... the infection rate has not been any greater than that of the DC area. Go figure.

This is what it sounds like. Whining and complaining about masks - which they’ve done since spring 2020 - is just tedious. You think we all like wearing them? No, we don’t. But if the GOP has shown anything in the last few years, it’s that they’re reckless with other people’s lives.

+1 million

Youngkin. Nutter on this thread. It's loud and clear.

It’s also loud and clear to me that you guys are heavily invested in believing this absurdity, no matter how patently false the assumption is across the many types of people who reject your evangelically moralistic view. It’s fundamental to your own feelings of needing to be seen as superior to others. Lots of weird psychology on display here. And I guarantee it’s not just limited to the way you view Covid.

Preach. The holier-than-thou sanctimony is really quite something. I guess I should be shocked, but these are the usual DCUM mean-girl cabal, so I'm not all that surprised. It's clear they have trouble playing well with others.

Yes, meanwhile anti-mask crybabies have been crying for the past two years about “fresh air” and permanently damaged children who will not develop properly because they are wearing a mask at school.

Parents screaming at school boards at teachers and even mask wearing kids. Right, you’ve all been so sane through this.

Will the children ever recover from this oppression?

Masks as a form of social control were all pretty rational fears. And let’s not forget the geo tracking microchips in the vax. Yup, a lot of sanity on the anti mask side.

All I’ve said is that I think you’re selfish jerks. I’m not overly dramatic, just straight forward and honest. That is what I and others think of you when we see you.

Soon, numbers will allow us all to take off our masks but until then when I see you I know exactly who and what you are.

Right back at you, psycho drama llama. YOU are the selfish jerk.
DP

Nah, I wear a mask when inside a public space and when I’m at a gas station I fill the car up then I move the car to a parking spot before going inside so that the gas pump is available for other people. I try and be courteous to others.

No one cares. No one.

I know no one cares, that is why Aldi charges a quarter just to get their carts returned because no one cares otherwise. You are not disputing my points.

You don’t make any valid “points” to dispute. Only nonsensical assumptions intended to spotlight you as “righteous.” You obviously choose to sort people into moral categories based on unnecessary mask-wearing, and you’re free to do so. However many of us reject your worldview and just find you irrational and self-serving. You really have a lot in common with the evangelical types I’m sure you abhor. Same moralistic condemnation, same black and white thinking.

I have literally posted links to data about the indisputable effectiveness of masking to slow the spread of covid. I notice how you didn’t respond to that.

Is he also free to ignore no shirt/no shoes/no service signs?

No, he should abide by the property owners rules.

Was there a rule in this store requiring a mask?

NO! I shop there.

What store was it?

People need to stop claiming, into their own echo chamber, that Youngkin was deliberately not wearing a mask in defiance of a mask requirement at Safeway. This is the Safeway at the Bermuda Triangle of Quaker/King/Braddock next to Bradlee Shopping Center. It looks like a space ship or something out of Star Wars. If you are familiar with Alexandria you know exactly where tis is.

There is NO mask requirement for this grocery store. None. There used to be a sign that asked you to wear a mask if you hadn't been vaccinated, but I don't know if that has been taken down. Regardless, Youngkin has already publicly stated he is vaccinated. He didn't have to wear a mask there. People need to unclench and let go.

I was at two Aldis today, the one on Monroe in Del Ray and the one on Duke near Foxchase. Both had small signs you could barely see inside that said masks were encouraged if you weren't vaccinated. There is no mask mandate in Alexandria. Businesses I believe can require masks, but most are NOT doing it. Please stop the insanity with just assuming there are mask requirements or that all Alexandrians wear masks. Screaming at each other, shaming people, it's pitiful.

Well, I mean if there is no mask required in the store I'm certain that Covid will abide by that and politely stay outside so that the good shoppers of Alexandria are safe.

that wasn't the issue and it isn't the issue. People claiming that the Bradless Center Safeway has a mask requirement and that the Governor wasn't abiding by it. Not whether there was covid in Safeway (FYI in 2022 you should just assume there will be covid anywhere and everywhere). You twist yourself in knots to find something wrong. I'm sorry you want everyone to be wearing masks in Safeway. Safeway doesn't require it. So you are free to not shop there and go somewhere else that does require shoppers to mask up. You will be hard pressed to find a grocery store in Alexandria that actually does require masks. I know of none.

A little bit of trivia: Albertsons owns Safeway, and it also owns Balduccis. I was at the OT Balduccis a week ago (against my better judgment, their prices are insane), and several of their employees weren't wearing masks, in addition to all the elderly people who shop there.

And as for the 2 Aldis I went to today, I saw several instacart shoppers shopping at both locations, none were wearing masks. Breathing all over your groceries I guess.

Who goes to multiple Aldis in a day?

Me. Since you're so nosy (and sounds snobby) I needed to buy a bunch of gatorade for several sports teams. You can get an 8 pack for $5 which is almost half the price anywhere else and they have the flavors the kids requested. What's wrong with Aldi? You're too good for it?

I have nothing against Aldi but I'm sure you left shopping carts all over their parking lot though.

When you take up two parking spaces is it because you suck at backing in or is it because you just don't care?

Ahh the fiction writer has returned! She knows more about you than apparently you do!

I also think your Aldi shopping cart comment is hilarious because everyone knows you put the cart back so you can get your quarter back.

Sorry you need the quarter.

LOL Nothing says “I’m a decent person” like insulting someone based on where they shop! Im also confused-are you upset I return the cart? I thought you really hated people who leave them in the parking lot.

Wait a minute; I'm the poster that shops at Aldi to get gatorade. I still don't understand what is wrong with shopping at Aldi? Why would I leave my shopping carts in the parking lot; that makes zero sense, especially since you need to get the quarter back. Heck yeah I want my quarter. So let me get this straight: it's ok and perfectly acceptable to make fun of people who are trying to save money as well as jeer and yell at people who are not wearing masks in grocery stores even though masks aren't required. Um, ok.

Right, sorry, you went to multiple Aldi's today so yeah you're gonna want your .75 cents back.

Did you ever ask yourself why Aldi charges for the cart and promises your money back for its return in the first place? I hope you enjoy your "Because of all the Selfish Twats Tax" they charge you because inconsiderate people leave their carts all over parking lots.

Not sure how this thread turned into being about Aldi but I will bite. The reason Aldi has the one quarter (and in Europe one euro) fee to get a cart is not because people would leave their carts all over the parking lot otherwise. Aldi's business model is as streamlined; as possible all associates know how to do each and every job in the store. One of the jobs they do not want them doing is gathering carts from the cart corral (the designed parking space/area in a parking lot where people return carts) and bringing them back into the store. The customer is doing this job for the store, they get their cart at the door, and then return it to the door, back in line with the other carts by inserting the key from the neighboring cart. It's a labor issue. It's one less thing an Aldi employee has to do. This is a distinct, purposeful part of their business model and way they keep their costs/overhead low, along with other strategies.

So no, people would not leave their carts all over the place if there wasn't a quarter system. Are there carts all over parking lots and not in the cart corrals at Target, Harris Teeter, Giant, WF, Safeway, etc?

You literally just admitted that people DO in fact leave carts all over the place when a deposit is not required. Just because some stores pay someone to round them up doesn’t exactly prove your point.

It started because Puritan Mask lady decided to make fun of someone for shopping at Aldi, when that person was only sharing mask-wearing observations on her recent Aldi trip.

Can you not read? The PP said “gathering carts from the CART CORRAL.” So no, she did not “literally” admit what you’re saying she did.

Seriously, you sound like a genuinely unpleasant person to be around. I think I’d rather have someone with Covid cough into my face than have to share any space with you.

Not if I was already over there for other errands/reasons. I didn’t make a special trip just to go to the second Aldi. I was already over there on Duke and thought hey, why not run in and see if they have more of the gatorades.

Posters need to let this go. I’m not sure why so many are micro focused on my shopping habits and obsessed with trying to prove something other than I just wanted to save money if I needed to buy $100 worth of gatorades for 3 high school sports teams. My entire point was that many grocery stores in Alexandria do not require masks. Geesh.

Because some people HAVE to control others for their own satisfaction.

Is this the root issue here? People rebelling because they feel like they are being "controlled" when asked to do certain things for public health?

Is this why people have been freaking out about wearing masks? Some kind of unresolved issues from their youth? It does have a tantrum feel to it.
