I read about Sofia yesterday and can't stop thinking about her. One comment in the article said her parents didn't renew her green card on purpose (not sure if that's true).

She was sent to Russia a week after her 15 birthday. She said to fly solo internationally, one must be 15 and above.

She is not a US citizen even though her mom is. She can't come back to the US after next March when she turns 18.

Her step dad is an immigration lawyer.

If you know how to help her, I found her facebook page here:

Sounds like the step dad wanted to get rid of his wife's "baggage" from her previous relationship.

We already had a thread on this. The teen was misbehaving ...sneaking boys in, claiming she was a drug dealer, etc and her behavior was negatively impacting the other small children in the household.

Her mother and stepfather decided to send her to her birth father. She was under the impression that she would be coming back but the mom and stepfather had different plans. They sent her there long term to get her act straight.

Here's the original thread on this topic:

She has been there for almost 3 years.

The fact that she will lose her status and can never come back to the US doesn't sound strange to you?

She was never a US citizen to begin with.

+1

She can still apply to become a US citizen however the process is slightly more difficult once you are 18.

That's what's odd about it. Her mom could have adjusted Sofia's status as a dependent.

Her mother doesn't want her back. She was a pain in the ass teenager and her mother sent her to live with her father. Lots of divorced parents send kids to live with the other parent, her other parent just happens to be in the far white north.

Maybe the mom should have taught her what was what when she was younger. Unruly teenagers don't pop out of nowhere. They used to be unruly 5 year olds. It doesn't just "happen."

Mom just wants to wash her hands of her. So sad.

She never knew this father and they don't even speak the same language. And apparently he's an abusive drunk...

They do speak the same language. Have you watched the girl's you tube videos? She speaks Russian. She didn't when she first got there but she speaks it now. Plus she doesnt live with her father. She stays in a youth hostel and works in another town.

Exactly. So many rich, poor and middle-class children are being neglected very early on. They get constant streams of new sitters/day care workers/nannies. It's epidemic in this area. It's horrifying. We have our priorities screwed up. Little children require stable and consistent care.

Why do you think they're raging?

Are you related to the mother? Because you're not even making sense.

Yes, the girl learned Russian to survive but that doesn't change the fact that her mother sent her to live with an abusive man she didn't know who didn't even speak her language.

The mother should have first warned the child, and demanded frequent supportive conselling. But we know that's nearly impossible to get.
