Chantilly mom ships teen daughter to Siberia. Two years later, she’s still there. Really.

She probably can't save up the money, but if someone paid for her to come over, would it be possible for her just to come back?

She's not a citizen. She'd need a sponsor.

Exactly, as a minor she probably needs her parents to consent. Is there a way to bring her over as a student?

She has a green card she does not need consent to return, however she's been gone for 3 years so maybe her greencard is expired. I find the whole story a little weird.

She will need a student visa. That's impossible for 2 reasons. She has an intent to stay indefinitely in US. Also, she needs money in the bank to prove that she can pay for tuition.

Yeah, as a green card holder you are not allowed to live somewhere else. But perhaps since she is a minor and didn't have a say in where she lives, she could get a new one.

One of the comments in the article said that her parents actually cancelled her green card application (renewal I assume).

There has GOT to be a way for an NGO or someone to take on this case and help this child out. Anyone?

Exactly. So many rich, poor and middle-class children are being neglected very early on. They get constant streams of new sitters/day care workers/nannies. It's epidemic in this area. It's horrifying. We have our priorities screwed up. Little children require stable and consistent care.

Why do you think they're raging?

Oh, please. This girl didn't just 'have a constant stream of new nannies', she moved countries at 2, was never in touch with her maternal grandparents, had different 'daddies' in and out of the house..
That's what I call 'having your priorities screwed up', not sending your kid to a preschool.

Anyone on this thread can ask an immigration attorney what it would take to sponsor her. Not that hard to do here in the Washington area. But one of you would have to take the risk that her mother will not.

A green card holder is allowed to live somewhere else, as long it's no more than 6 months each year. In certain circumstances, you are allowed a longer stay abroad, but then you need to file additional papers with INS and wait for an approval to come back stateside. But for a minor, it's a different story altogether, her guardians should file for her.

Unstable, inconsistant care of children is a bitch, isn't it?

That is exactly what I'm saying. Shame on her mother. Even if she was a terribly bratty, disobedient teenager (and which 15 year old isn't), she doesn't just get to throw away her daughter. Shame on her and shame on you for thinking she was right.

+1. There is a reason this girl acted out! Maybe she felt like an outsider in her mom's new family - that is pretty common. Maybe she was craving attention and felt that negative attention was better than no attention at all. The dynamics in stepfamilies can be crazy sometimes. I am sorry but I do not believe that this child's life was peaches and cream before she was sent to Russia.

+1,000.

If anyone should be sent to Siberia, it's the mother, Natalia Roberts or whatever her name is. On second thought, she should be sent to Uganda, to make sure she doesn't speak the language.

Yes, it is. So is 'inconsistant' grammar.
