Chantilly mom ships teen daughter to Siberia. Two years later, she’s still there. Really.

I just can't stop thinking how hopeless she must feel over there.

She believes her immigration lawyer step dad is behind all this. Isn't this child abuse? She's a minor and living on her own in Siberia!

Isn't it a violation of some sort for an attorney to use his knowledge this way?

The fact that she will lose her status and can never come back to the US doesn't sound strange to you?

She was never a US citizen to begin with.

That's what's odd about it. Her mom could have adjusted Sofia's status as a dependent.

Her mother doesn't want her back. She was a pain in the ass teenager and her mother sent her to live with her father. Lots of divorced parents send kids to live with the other parent, her other parent just happens to be in the far white north.

And that's ok with you? When your teenager misbehaves, just ship them off to be someone else's problem. I don't care if it is her real father, if they had no relationship before that, how could her mom just send her away like that. Some parents think parenting is only required as long as there aren't any problems or misbehaving. what a bitch her mother is. Poor kid.

Of course it is, but who is going to call him on it?

She was sent because she was unruly and misbehaving - to put it mildly. Three years later, instead of owning her own mistakes and apologizing for them, she still only gives excuses and blames others - she is still a brat and we have tons of those here already. Good riddance!

She never knew this father and they don't even speak the same language. And apparently he's an abusive drunk...

They do speak the same language. Have you watched the girl's you tube videos? She speaks Russian. She didn't when she first got there but she speaks it now. Plus she doesnt live with her father. She stays in a youth hostel and works in another town.

Are you related to the mother? Because you're not even making sense.

Yes, the girl learned Russian to survive but that doesn't change the fact that her mother sent her to live with an abusive man she didn't know who didn't even speak her language.

The facts of this case are widely published. I am not related to the mother but I sure do know how to read.

I could not have said it better. I'm shocked at the small few of you who are being supportive of the brat of a daughter.

Mom just wants to wash her hands of her. So sad.

Exactly. So many rich, poor and middle-class children are being neglected very early on. They get constant streams of new sitters/day care workers/nannies. It's epidemic in this area. It's horrifying. We have our priorities screwed up. Little children require stable and consistent care.

Why do you think they're raging?

We're surrounding ourselves with time bombs here waiting to go off.

she couldn't send her to wilderness camp in Montana?

this is a disgusting story even IF the girl did all those things, she is a CHILD!! her parents should be banished to Siberia instead.

It's good to know, as my kids enter the teenage years, that Siberia is the place to send them when they are brats.

Does anyone have the phone number of the youth hostel (for future reference)?

How about a little addressing the root causes? Not exciting?

So instead of parenting the mother decided it's better just to throw her daughter away? Brat or not (and I'm sure she had no help from her mother BECOMING A BRAT ), she didn't deserve to be sent away to a place she didn't know to a father she didn't know. I hope all of you supporting this mother have a sense not to have children.

Good parenting is fucking hard work. Can't we just keep paying someone else to do the dirty work that has no glory?

+1. There is a reason this girl acted out! Maybe she felt like an outsider in her mom's new family - that is pretty common. Maybe she was craving attention and felt that negative attention was better than no attention at all. The dynamics in stepfamilies can be crazy sometimes. I am sorry but I do not believe that this child's life was peaches and cream before she was sent to Russia.

Couldn't the girl just save up the money for a return plane ticket and get on a plane herself and come back?
