Anonymous wrote:A Wake-Up Call

I was never a fan of the Israeli government at all. Since I’ve understood this issue, which for me has been about 30 years, I’ve always believed Israel’s land grabs are vilely wrong. I’ve always said we need international law to hold them accountable. I’ve also always said there needs to be a 2-state solution because the people are there now and you can’t just have them leave the area entirely. That’s like asking most of us in the US - who had nothing to do with the horrible founding of our country - to leave. (And even then, Jews do at least have some historical connection to the region, which is more than most of us can say in the US.)

All that said, I’ve never had any sympathy for Israel - until Oct 7. It’s that simple. And I shouldn’t have to explain that further. There’s no “but”. The fact that these protests started just days later by kids who didn’t know shit before that and that some of you are eating it up too, just shows how effective the terrorist propaganda brainwashing machine has been.

This was and is an act of terrorism. This is like all of you celebrating 911. It’s the same fking thing. And back then a small domestic fringe did. And even me back then as a young person, I certainly didn’t celebrate it but I did feel that our imperialist policies were the cause. See I was “woke” well before any of you knew what that was. But I’ve grown up and I’ve learned about the true state of geopolitics. The reality is every day is a game of thrones no matter how much we wish the world could be different. What leader do you want? What global order do you want? It won’t be a utopian benevolent one. I’ve come to terms with that. We can have US democracy with all of its warts, we can have authoritarian rule, we can have extreme religious fundamentalist totalitarianism.

Take your pick. Because whether you realize it or not, that’s exactly what each of us are doing right now. We are choosing.

+100. Plenty of liberal, two state supporting people out there with this exact pov who are appalled by the radical left.

People who sit on the grass voicing opposition to the mass pulverization of babies are not radicals. Those who drop bunker busting bombs on tents are. Those who send in snipers on college lawns are.

Even a young child understands implicitly who is a threat to humanity at this point.

Yah, they are radical. Most of the protestors can’t answer anything about the history of the conflict and are complete morons, a byproduct of a radicalized curriculum gone too far in the oppressed vs oppressor narrative. Their whole existence is victimhood. They need to go out, get jobs and also a life.

Maybe it's gotten to the point that no one wants to hear about "history" anymore - from either side - and wants this to finally stop. Neither side is going to make headway using historical arguments that only prolong the conflict. Again, this region has seen religious conflict for thousands of years and people arre sick of it.

History is context. History is how you understand people, their motivations and actions. Which history are we supposed to stop hearing about? The protesters are happy to talk about history when it's the Nakba, or anything else that contextualizes the Palestinians as using terrorism as resistance. But we're supposed to be "over it" when that history is the Holocaust, or the Yom Kippur War, or the Second Intifada contextualizing why Israelis are there and their actions?

The point here is that we've argued history until we're blue in the face; each side has their own version and will not budge. Context is rendered meaningless because of this. Yes Holocaust and yes the forced resettlement of Palesitnians and subsequent deprivations - can we move on now?

I would love to move onto a world where we all just accept that all of these groups live there in the present day and have to learn to do so peacefully. But "the point here" (here being the discussion of the college protests) needs to be an understanding of where we've been, so that we understand where we are and where we can go from here. You and I, assuming we both understand the context, can certainly move onto a discussion of the present and future of the region. But there has been study after study, survey after survey, of anti-Israel protesters that show they don't have even a basic understanding of the conflict or the history of the region. How are we supposed to "move on" from such wildly different starting places in our knowledge?

Kind of my point. How many times do you want to rehash history? We've been doing this for nearly 80 years (as regards modern Israel) and the situation has actually regressed in that time. An understanding of the basic history is necessary, yes, but we've been doing this for decades; there's nothing new here. Twenty-something kids aren't going to settle this, so lets just leave them out of it.

Right? Someone just needs to wander over into the Middle East and tell folks enough is enough with this history nonsense. That'll fix it.

Even if you tried to argue that their presence did diminish, in any way, the legitimacy of the protest, Israel has such a vibrant, lengthy reputation for cosplaying other groups through false flag operations to achieve its own goals that it would be impossible to discount ANY protest, no matter how much it might be disagreeable. That’s what happens when one side operates without integrity. Nothing they say is believed without extraordinary investigation, follow-up, and analysis because of their track record.

This is insane. And I say this as a moderate Democrat with no ties to Israel. Crap like above makes me strongly pro-Israel even if I wasn’t before, because you sound like an antisemitic lunatic.

Oh please, pretending you’re not 10 knuckles deep into pro-Israel ideology isn’t fooling anyone. Mossad does exactly what you bolded daily. Again … daily. Costumes, false flag operations, impersonations, etc. It’s standard SOP and even they don’t deny it. But you do.

Israel intentionally bombed the USS Liberty over and over again, and then denied it despite overwhelming evidence that they knowingly killed those sailors. Israel manufactured the false evidence of WMDs in Iraq and then goaded us into that quagmire of a war, for obvious self-serving reasons. They lie about every single IDF atrocity. Wouldn’t even know where to begin with the IDF dishonesty.

If you believe anything coming out of Israel these days, you’re just a gullible chump. There’s a reason that it’s common knowledge not to trust Israelis, and if you’re not familiar with that rule, you’re either uninformed or you’re lying.

The pro-Israel provocateurs in these college campus protest / counter-protest conflicts did exactly that … FFS, there are videos of Jewish antagonists forcing their way into the middle of protests at Columbia and UCLA, pretending to be with the protesters, screaming actual anti-semitic slurs and trying to exhort others to join in, only to be booed.

Wake TF up. Nobody paying attention buys your make believe shock at these accusations based on fact.

You are convincing more and more people that Israel is right every time you write. You are a vile antisemite. I am someone who has joined pro-Palestine protests over the years (peaceful ones) and I cannot be on the same side as someone like you. I read the garbled, incoherent nonsense you wrote and I want nothing to do with it.

Unfortunately for you, most normal Americans feel like me. You are losing the war for public opinion badly. People like you are why these protests are wildly unpopular in the US. You turn people pro-Israel every time you open your mouth.

Oh, the “It’s your words that are shoving me into the arms of full-throated defense of genocide” card? How corny.

Just to summarize your pearl clutching outrage for others: When you see a reaction like this one, know that a nerve has been hit and the side committing and defending this century’s genocide is scrambling and desperate to denounce what’s been said to *hopefully* chase others away from reading it and considering it.

DP. Your unhinged word salads are unending - are you on this forum 24/7? Do you have a job or any responsibilities? Or are you just a Hamas-supported paid troll?

Eye roll. Different poster and when I see a response like yours, I think there is some crazed loser behind a keyboard who has no understanding of the history of the Palestinian conflict or the two state solutions they rejected in the past.

Yup. Raging, incomprehensible nutcases like the PP just sound like the MAGA of the left.

It’s crazy how much the antisemitic crazies on the far left and the far right sound identical.

Go extreme enough and eventually the 2 points meet. Mathematical paradox but not really a paradox at all.

DP

Deconstruct the post in question and point out where it’s extreme. I dare you.

All histrionics in these reactions, not a gram of substance or substantive rebuttal. Very telling.

Crickets. Not surprising at all. So the post(s) are "vile" and "anti-semitic" and "inaccurate", and yet nobody has the stones to address and rebut each of these supposed vile, anti-semitic, and inaccurate statements. And that's because they can't - try arguing that Israel doesn't play dress up and pretend to be other cultural and state-based groups to conceal their role in extrajudicial killings worldwide, bombings of other countries on their sovereign soil (what's viewed as an act of war for everyone excerpt Israel) and fomenting conflicts in global protests, etc.

Just try it, and get laughed out of the room. FFS, Israelis brag incessantly about the Mossad and their subterfuge in executing missions around the world. FFS, did you miss the extrajudicial hospital assassinations of crippled patients four months ago when Israeli agents dressed up as pregnant women to "sneak up on" the targets, m lying crippled in their hospital bed. They do it all the time. But to you, saying so is vile, anti-semitic, and a bunch of other blather.

DP. You mean when Israelis killed HAMAS TERRORISTS?? You utter imbecile. Even Hamas admitted these were their members who were killed. So good for Israel for taking out TERRORISTS.

It’s very clear you’re simply a Hamas mouthpiece and puppet. Your posts are beyond insane.

I don't want to "rehash" history, but I want us all to understand it. It's only "rehashing" because someone taught it to us at some point. We owe it to this generation of college kids and to our democracy (because those college kids can vote on this issue that they know very little about) to provide them with a foundation of understanding. Otherwise we're going to end up with a generation that doesn't fully understand the starting point and I just don't see how we "move on" from that in any really meaningful way.

Right, because that's exactly what I said.

There are people at a very high level within all parties that are on this but can't get anywhere because of ancient prejudices; history has become an excuse for wholesale slaughter on both sides and the rest of the world is just done with this.

And then the Zionists cause the Palestinians as terrorists. Come on, what would you do if your home was stolen by invaders??

Do you know who the first occupants and invaders were thousands of years ago?

This. Y’all need a refresher on global history and study of the earliest civilizations. Both groups have ancient historical connections to the area. As evidenced by archeological findings and DNA sequencing. Both have rights to the region and they need to work together for peace and unanimity. Those of your spouting this ignorant garbage really really need a history lesson. And before you say I’m pro-Israeli, I actually had no sympathy for them until 10/7 because the land grabs have been so abhorrent. These leaders have failed all of the people of the region.

They are bored, terminally online, privileged, and coddled. They are doing this for much the same reason MAGA got behind Trump - their lives are too good, and it's made them lazy and overly comfortable, so they've decided to FA and see if things get more interesting.

If they had to work. If they had families. If they had any challenge at all in life, they would be working on that instead.

The Vietnam protesters had skin in the game. They were going to be drafted. These kids are addicted to TikTok and never had to work for anything in their lives. Their biggest problem was they had to go to school online for a year and got overly scheduled for soccer games. Now they have all the answers. Give me a break.

And I say this as someone who wishes Netanyahu was gone. Is horrified by what is happening in Gaza. Has no idea what Biden could be doing differently to thread the needle between supporting our ally and not subsidizing Bibi's desperate bid to keep the war going so he won't be kicked out of office. I don't have the answers. I'll tell you what - these kids don't either.

So when challenged to rebut one by one these so-called “vile”, “anti-semitic” “lies”, all the propaganda-skewing extremists could muster was a feeble round of name calling. Literally. That’s it. Name calling. Embarrassing.

Again, hardly surprising. Nutters, word salad, and more, but zero substantive response. It’s been the same noise for months, apparently. The defenders of Israel have nothing.

Right, because that's exactly what I said.

There are people at a very high level within all parties that are on this but can't get anywhere because of ancient prejudices; history has become an excuse for wholesale slaughter on both sides and the rest of the world is just done with this.

If only humans didn't have those pesky human emotions...
