ECNL moving to school year part 2

My kid made the ECNL team after the April tryout, so I assume Q3/Q4 will start practicing with the younger NL team around March, while the Spring season is ongoing.

I assume USYNT stays birth year so we will have two different versions of U15. One for club and one for ODP/USYNT.

That will be confusing.

This was the situation prior to 2016, it wasn’t confusing. All full time club teams were 8/1. ODP is a supplemental program that doesn’t have the importance it used to, was 1/1. Youth national teams have always been 1/1. NT scouts may have a more difficult job (I’m sure they’ll manage) but it won’t involve parents or families. They will still invite athletes to ID clinics based on BY.

No, oldest potenrial player will always be 8/1

School cutoff might make some a little earlier but not by much. Basically Every school on America starts somewhere between Aug 1st and mid Sept. The variance wouldn't matter for league games because everyone would have roughly the same local start date.
You wrote no then explained, yes some states would have an advantage and others a disadvantage.

Anything could happen. Maybe a player had a birthday that was 8/1 and their school started on 8/1. But then they moved to a district that starts 9/1. They're not going to magically change grades. The point is that there might a slight variance depending on the school district but nobody will ever be older than 8/1.

So yes, factoring grades into player registration would advantage some states and disadvantage others. Explains why it isn't on the table for discussion.

This is what I think will happen too.

I have been curious how youth teams in transition from 7v7 9v9 11v11 would handle things. Some transition in the spring and if some of those kids wouldn't be moving to larger sides games for another year would they expose them to it early or not.

I think theres a very good chance that Leagues and clubs provide some type of guidance that younger players should play with their grade in school team. It just makes sense to gently push players into a grade in school grouping so clubs are ready when college recruiting starts. Also how would you handle a freshman in HS that's playing on an 8th grade team but also playing in HS? Its the inverse of the current BY trapped players when they're in 8th grade. But it doesnt really matter because coaches ie clubs will choose rosters not parents. Thet might say that they're going to give Aug birthdays a choice to play up or down. But the reality will be you have the choice to play on your grade ECNL or ECRL team or not play on your grade ECNL or ECRL team.

Im sure some parents will search out playing down but nobody is going to want to cater to it. if the player was good enough for the grade down ECNL team they should definitely be able to play on their own grades ECRL or ECNL team.

This Aug guy is so pathetic trying to pretend to be someone else. But we all know it is still and always the same guy with this nonsense

A text I just got from my team manager at my daughter’s GA club. My daughters club coach is GA director and US youth national team coach.

GA going school year this spring…?

Some might call that unrecruitable (and be wrong, BTW)

State A has an August 1 kindergarten start cutoff

State B has a December 31 kindergarten start cutoff.

What should a girl with a December 30th 2015 birth date do in State B?
1- play u11 next season, within the 12 month window, would be playing with a mix of 6th (Aug-dec 2015) and 5th(Jan-July 2016) graders.
2- be forced to play up u12 next season where she may have to play against kids in State A who could be born August 2014.

Play on the u12 B team if they cant make the u12 A team.
Ask any parent of a current Nov or Dec kid, they would advise playing on age almost every time. And they would only be allowed to play up if they can make the top team anyway.

None of this always so black and white. Often as a kid develops in soccer, they might be good enough to play up but it's better for development to play with their age (also better for that age group).

Im not understanding why all these years since BY no one has asked or demanded talented Jan to May kids to play up. But now all of a sudden with a switch to SY Aug to Dec kids who decided not to play up are cheaters, losers, or just aren’t good players?

I'm convinced this is a plot to help the Q1 players by reducing the number of quality Q3 players they have to face who are older.
