Consider myself well-education, well-spoken and I'm young. Had a great few dates with a guy and casually brought up that I had a child and the look of shock. Somehow the shocked reaction I appreciate the honesty, but I guess if I were on a date with someone I didn't know I would figure it's fair game that, well, they would tell me new things about themselves. |
Pardon the awful auto-corrects. |
If you are dating young guys then you cannot blame them for being shocked. It's not like you are dating older men who may be divorced and has children. It's good thing that you found that out now. There are so many awful things happening to children especially by the mothers' boyfriends. Your child should always come first.

huh? Are you sure about the well-educated part? |
How many dates in were you? I am 30yo mom but I feel like that should be shared no later than the first date, ideally beforehand. The look of shock might be based on when you decided to disclose that information. I dated someone once who waited awhile to share and it caught me off guard. |
Interesting, before the first date? I disclosed at the end of the first date and got the shocked look. Young, as in, under 35 crowd |
How much under? 35 is not young. |
Who said my child was not my first priority? I don't disclose right away to protect my child from predators. |
Late 20s to early 30s |
Admittedly, my phone is a dumba$$ sometimes. |
And the well-spoken part? ![]() |
That is my glass of wine talking ![]() |
"Consider myself well-education, well-spoken "
Hard to believe. How is that germane to disclosing that you have a kid? |
So, OP, we're the same age then (I'm the 30yo). Most men know I'm a mom in the first phone conversation. It's a part of who I am. I am from X, I work at X, I live in DC with my little one, she's age X. I worry about predators too which is why DD has never met any of my dates. |
sounds like OP was fishing in the shallow end of the pool - if you're in your late 20s and dating men around that same age, get used to that look of shock and watch those guys run as fast as they can in the opposite direction |
