You think its just one person? Everyone I know IRL wants to know who the "VIP" was. If you are from here, you know how much abuse there is with these VIP flights. It was probably Elon's kid, or someone's dog.

Get out of your petty obsessed echo chamber then. Your comments and harping are dumber than rocks.

Let’s say your wet dream comes true and Elon Musk forced a Black Hawk to come up to drive him to Langley at 7pm and then they went back.

They went back to base and flew incompetently and dangerously. Why is TBD, if we ever find out.

Nothing to do with Trump or musk.

NP. I am not sure why this is so confusing to people. If it was someone from the Senate Committee on Intelligence and the news had reported that the helo was flying back from dropping off the senator at Langley, I don't think anyone would have blinked. Everyone understands that VIPs take helicopters. We may think it's a waste of tax payer money but no one would have thought twice about it. But if it was Elon Musk, yes, I personally would be livid. And it would be a sign of government corruption.

Exactly. If the trip to Langley had a legitimate purpose no one would have blinked. Which is why withholding it makes it seem illegitimate.

I have an idea.

Let's tell China, Iran, N Korea and Russia how many times we do BH practice runs with high security VIPs, and exactly what routes, what days/times, and publish that all asap!

Why? Because some fixated anonymous internet fool thinks that's the key to a Black Hawk helicopter ramming a commercial airliner and killing everyone later that evening.

Yeah, makes sense.

LOL at your trying to pretend like the current administration gives a crap about national security. They are selling all our secrets to the highest bidder.

Sorry but the administration has nothing to do with a Blackhawk flying at the wrong altitude and position over the river, near an airport.

Agree, I want my peace and quiet back over Fox hall and west Bethesda. Now is the time! Shut down DCA!

As has been discussed extensively, the number of flights at DCA isn't the problem. The proximity of helicopter routes to DCA is the problem.

Both can be (and are) a problem.

The separation between landing flights is the same as what you'd find at other busy airports, including IAD and BWI. The flights aren't the problem. The helicopters are.

This is not correct. IAD was designed to accommodate 70 million annual passengers. DCA was designed to handle 15 million. Last year, both airports had around 25 million passengers. DCA actually handled MORE flights than IAD last year I believe (because the planes tend to be smaller for DCA).

The Black Hawk helicopter turned on it's transponder just outside of Langley. It's home location is Ft. Belvoir in Alexandria. It was never going to DCA. It dropped someone at Langley and then was returning to Belvoir along the Helo route that passes DCA.

Wait if there was a VIP, they can’t be bothered to travel by car from Alexandria to Langley?? That’s like 20 minutes. This is what our country is using these black hawks for? Unreal.

Well we don't know where the person was picked up. Only that they were dropped at Langley. The soldiers were based at Belvoir. But yes this is absolutely what DC area Black Hawks are used for.

Right, that's why people are saying the whole day of the helicopter and who was in it, where did it go, was relevant. The BH could have left Ft Belvoir, flown to the WH, picked someone up, and ferried them to Langley. All we know for 100% certain is that it left Langley (and the ONLY reason for this kind of flight to do that would be a VIP drop off) and was headed back to Ft Belvoir.

No that’s not the only reason to fly that route at night at all.

Agree. There are many reasons why the helicopters need to be flown in DC. It isn’t flight school. That’s in Alabama for good reason. The pilots flying helicopters in DC should be be those highly skilled and experienced given what the missions and security and dense population of the city.

And yet, you'll still see aircraft spaced 4-6 miles apart coming into Dulles.

Dulles has 4 parallel runways and no restricted airspace nearby. National has basically only 1.5 runways and there’s one narrow path in/out. How do you compare the two? It’s much more difficult to control for air traffic at DCA.

NP

It’s actually not relevant. The pilots need to know that river route in day and night time conditions and stay valid on their hours.

Why is that so difficult to understand?

The fact that they - barring a mechanical or medical emergency in the cockpit - can’t see other aircraft around them whilst flying or having an active ATC tell them about traffic, is highly disturbing. Along with the likely fact that there were significantly above the required elevation and off route.

I mean, this is as close to as bad as it gets. If we all supposedly already know that VIPs are constantly being shuttled around, how is it now a big secret who it was? The flight already happened! It’s not like you’re divulging a future flight itinerary by releasing the information. There’s no legitimate National security reason that outweighs the need for transparency here.

The investigation will triangulate to why the aircraft was in the wrong X,y,z coordinates across from the DCA airport.

Sure everyone feels awful but pretending it’s some former passengers fault, or top down order, or training hours demand, or Head of the Army’s “fault” is irrational and incorrect.

Who are you people & why are you so against disclosing the VIP's name?

Yeah, what does it matter if they release the name of the VIP?

Musk has teen Peter Thiel boys looking through classified documents. If any rando teen can look at classified documents now, then why can't we know the name of this VIP?

Have you seen DCA terminals lately last 5 years or so? looks like the international airport at a less developed country. They probably won't shut it down with Amazon 2 just down the street.

Maybe they had explosive diarrhea. You have no idea the circumstances.

Shouldn't they have a backup?
