British press and tabloids alike are pitiful.

She did what you asked and still you're - furious. They're just mad their paycheck (look at that - MONTHLY HEADLINES - is going away)

Except they aren't moving to Victoria.

Sussex, New Brunswick.

I can't post a link from my phone.

That would be hysterical. I’m always amazed people live north of Maine. Just when you think it can’t get any colder, it does.

I believe it was the Daily Mail reported it.

They wanted somewhere not everyone knows about.

Why is living North of Maine hysterical? Yeah.... It's cold. People deal with it.

It would be hysterical because of all the places in the world they would be choosing a place already named after them with 4,000 inhabitants- Sussex. Not because it is cold or Canada. Like they are claiming their fiefdom, 4,000 people strong.

I’m guessing you’ve never driven through that part of Canada.

Maybe to you. To me and a lot of other people (see the majority positive international coverage) they look smart: they are protecting their child, setting up a way to independent wealth, and getting themselves away from a toxic family. Seems brilliant.

Yes... they are going to make a fortune (or try to make a fortune) by being grifters.... because that's what it is. Manipulating rich people to make yourself rich through huge speaking fees when you say nothing of particular merit. At least other famous speakers have illustrious careers (former presidents, for example).

I'm all for people making a fortune but let's not pretend this is a morally better way of doing it, especially as the at the same time want to be spokesmen for oppression and environmental causes and all that at the same time. Errr? Am I missing something here? Why not donate your fat speaking fees to save the environment rather than paying for your private jet, eh?

Like I said earlier, I'd have total respect and completely support them if their plan was to retreat to a quiet life somewhere. Live an environmentally sustainable lifestyle on a farm in western Canada. Maybe pop back to the UK a few times a year for ceremonies but otherwise live very privately with just their children and close friends. That would meet their need for privacy and to have their own life. But that's not what's happening, is it? They want to be a different kind of royal: celebrities. Which means they'll still be in the nasty public eye, full media attention, press following them everywhere, jetting around the world on high carbon private jets to lecture about saving the environment, hanging out on the red carpet with the Clooneys and other celebs.

Shrugs.

There are many ways to live a sustainable lifestyle that don’t require you to live on a farm. If that is the only way to do it then we are truly effed. They need security. Harry has previously had his life threatened and been a target of kidnapping while he was in the military. Plus if they are as reviled as you say they are in the UK then they are also at risk. So either they can have their costs paid by Charles or they can work. But you seem to be against either.

Rather telling you ignored the hypocrisies involved here.

Living in a big mansion and jetting around in a private jet all the time = hypocrite, not environmentalist. Making a fortune through speaking fees and grifting from your new foundation, while telling people how to be better environmentalists while simultaneously not following it yourself = hypocrite.

That was a big part of the criticism laid against Harry and Meghan over the past year or so.

Actions speak louder than words. And unfortunately their actions to date aren't encouraging. What they proclaim they want to do does not match up with the realities of being a proper environmentalist or a proper social reformer. Saying you're retreating from the royal life to live the quiet life a la Greta Garbo is utterly honorable and understandable. Leaving the royal life to be another shallow rich celeb with double standards is not.

Are you the poster that thinks they should go live on a farm and raise animals?

Borrowed from one of the more respectable British publications, by someone who had previously been a fan:

----

Thankfully, by the summer of 2019 I was thoroughly disillusioned and slunk off to the excellent Swiss magazine Die Weltwoche to moan; ‘Harry and Meghan took four private jets in eleven days after a summer of lecturing us about climate change and refusing to show their baby to the paying public; this followed shortly after the prince’s jaunt to the Google climate change summit where he is also thought to also have taken a helicopter, as he habitually uses them to fly short distances whereas the Queen makes do with a train. Having a public figure as notoriously self-centred and bad-tempered as Elton John rush in to defend them didn’t help, but only further established that the Sussexes saw themselves as international stars rather than one nation’s public servants. But at least their box-fresh love-match is in no way sleazy – that side of things is competently being taken care of by Prince Andrew.’

Apparently I wasn’t alone in successfully de-toxing from my M&M habit; when a publication asked me to write in a for/against debate about her last year. I received a dismayed email back when I confirmed that I would be happy to condemn her: ‘Oh – we thought you liked her!’

‘I did – but I’ve gone off her.’

‘Oh, that’s what everyone says! Sorry, but we’re looking for people in favour…’

Well, they won’t be asking me again. Shortly after hearing that Meghan planned to semi-retire from royal duties in order to spend more time with her merchandising, I coined a fabulous phrase – THE GRABDICATION. My rehabilitation is now complete.

It'd be far less controversial if they did. And understandable. But they want to go off to make money by being hypocrites. And that is the point you seem to have trouble grasping. Making millions telling people to save the environment while flying around in private jets at the same time. Ok. Go for it!

That's obscene. Such double standards.

Anyone who follows the Royals knows that you could pull out headlines showing the poor treatment of any Royal.

Can you pull some nasty Kate headlines then?

Not pp but the UK press nicknamed her "Waity Katy" because she hung around for EIGHT years before they got married.

Which turned out to be the smart thing to do considering Meghan couldn’t even make it 2!

What? This makes no sense. Meghan didn’t have to hang around, as Harry proposed relatively quickly.

Kate waited around while Wills was out sowing his wild oats, as she had no ambition to do anything with her life, save for marrying William.

She met him at 19, not 36. Of course they stayed together for several years before getting engaged. But this is besides the point, she was taunted with Waity Katie for years, often to her face, because she wasn't a member of the family and there were fewer restrictions on the press. Her parents were fashioned as country bumpkins, social climbers, her sister was hounded. Let's be honest, it wasn't the press that drove the Sussexes decision, they just didn't want to be second fiddle and I can't say I blame them.
Many people meet their spouse in college and still develop a real career for themselves (I did!) they called her Waity because she did nothing befitting her degree. No one knew who Pippa was until Kate’s wedding and Pippa sought the press attention so she could hawk her basic garbage (remember Pippa tips?). That said I do think the press coverage of her parents was unfair. Carole Middleton seems like a very ambitious and hardworking person who is basically like a classier, British Kris Jenner. And just like Kris her least successful child is her son.

I’ve forgiven Kate for not doing much with her degree. I myself failed two classes in a semester when putting too much time into a relationship. And the relationship ended.

I ended up re-taking the classes, which doesnt remove the Fs from my college transcript but did replace the grade for the GPA. This issue hasn’t followed me at all, and I feel like a normal amount of success for an average person.

I can imagine being in love with William and loved by him, and all of the on and off stuff was intoxicating and distracting.

We all make certain mistakes and we can’t go back in time. Yes, you can remember this little fact about her, but I don’t know that there are more perfect people for the job than her. If there were someone else.. the stars would have had to align perfectly. Again, you can’t go back and line everything up just so.

You’ve forgiven her? What a weird statement.

It’s kind of moot, considering I don’t think for a moment Kate went to school to get an education - she went to put herself in Will’s sights, and it worked.

But aside from that - she had eight (8) years to actualize herself in some capacity, including a period where they were (supposedly) split. They started dating in 2003, and didn’t get engaged until 2010. Kate graduated in 2005, so she had at least 5 years to hit her own stride, which she never did. She puttered in part time jobs and worked for her parents. Pippa did work for the parents as well, but at least she wrote a book.

And somehow, everyone is eviscerating Meghan for actually having a career that maybe isn’t as illustrious as apparently it should have been. She busted her butt to get that career, and it’s not an easy industry to get into.

I think they’ll cool down on the eco stuff anyway.

They will be influencing by pushing women’s empowerment, treatment of animals, mental health. Those are all good things.

This post is coming from someone who is torn. I am a fan of theirs, completely. I do think they have made big missteps. The biggest one that maybe Meghan recognizes is the initial blind item. I don’t know how that chain of the telephone game happened.. but I think that set a negative personal tone in a IL relationship, and of the royals trust in her.

What you say is the truth. Kate did putter. No denying that. I just think at this point, it’s half a gray mark against her. Sorry she isn’t perfect?

I’m not one to criticize Meghans’s career. I think she did fine. Her career matches with a lot of people who go into acting.

I’m just younger than both women, and they’ve both done much more influential and amazing things than I have.

It's not over the top to point out that endlessly picking apart a pregnant woman for how she holds her belly is psychotic. The fact you can't see that just shows further evidence of your derangement.

That you can't accept a major public figure/celeb is nitpicked by the press just like other major public figure/celeb just shows further evidence of your derangement.

It's begun. Meghan is finally able to enjoy doing things like a normal person again. I bet it helps to be in a car with a wheel on the left like normal too.

Meghan Markle Spotted Enjoying the Freedom of the Open Road

Remember when she opened a CAR DOOR and the British press freaked out?

https://www.thecut.com/2020/01/meghan-markle-drives-herself-to-errands-in-canada.html?utm_campaign=thecut&utm_source=tw&utm_medium=s1&__twitter_impression=true

The Duchess of Sussex proved as much on Sunday when she was seen “driving herself” around Canada, according to sources who spoke to Us Weekly. Markle reportedly traveled from London to Vancouver Island on Friday and was spotted running errands all over town this weekend. Markle “went to a drugstore parking lot,” says in “insider,” who was apparently well-placed inside a drugstore parking lot.

If this was London the headlines would read:

Hateful Duchess spurns palace chauffeurs!
Watch out: Meghan caused a pile up on the interstate
Fatal car crash - Meghan nearly kills grandma
Motor emissions: why the Duchess of Sussex is killing the world with gas fuel smoke

This decision was Harry's decision, as much as MM's decision. He's wanted out since the army. He chose to not give Archie a titke, because he didn't want Archie to be stuck in the role of being a Royal. He watched the press hound his mother to death and does not want that for his wife.

Hate on MM as much as you want, but she has a husband who loves and protects her. He's standing up.to his entire family and his country for her and their baby. It's really romantic.

Are you joking? Kate and Will drive themselves regularly, and Kate is often spotted out running errands. Are we supposed to be impressed that Meghan is driving and doing errands?
