New Additions to Leagues Check Up (ECNL & GA)

I'm not a rocket surgeon but maybe just maybe college coaches aren't recruiting highschool age kids as much anymore and prioritizing there time on players from the transfer portal or overseas.

Champions (march) 138 128 117
GA Spring (April) 118 96 54

YIKES!!!! that Spring decline

wow. this are devastating numbers for the ga hats

ImYouthSoccer wears 3 ECNL hats at a time. Only "slighly" biased.

so you are disputing the numbers? why would they put out inaccurate numbers when you can go to the ecnl and ga websites and do your own count to verify?

Not disputing the numbers. Just that they cherry pick numbers that are bad for GA when there are similar numbers for ECNL that they conveniently don't mention.

For example, the post above used these numbers to draw attention to GA Spring's falling numbers

22/23. 23/24 24/25
GA Spring (April) 118 96 54
YIKES!!!! that Spring decline

These numbers are accurate. GA's D1 college attendance dropped 43%. But what they conveniently don't tell you is that ECNL Spring north carolina also dropped a lot, maybe more. ECNL NC Spring (May) 2024 had 179. ECNL NC Spring (May) 2025 has 46 signed up so far. YIKES!!! ECNL attendance dropped 74%!!! Yes, it's more than a month away so more colleges will be added. But it's still likely to be far less than last years just like GA's.

you can't attendance dropped!! when the event hasn't even started. we are actually 7 weeks away. you obvious don't keep up with registrations or you would know that most coaches sign up the week of so check back in 5 days be fore the tournament

ECNL Phoenix was more Mid-majors and D2s from what we saw, but it will not be advertised that way

dumb to have these events during spring college season

If you are more impressed by a club having players sit on a bench at Rider, UMBC, NJIT, Temple, Lehigh, or any number of poor programs over playing or starting on D3 power houses like Messiah, Christopher Newport, Johns Hopkins, Emory, Amherst and many others in the NE then you are part of the problem. I have seen it before and still see it now, players ditching starting spots at great D3s and D2s to, they they are lucky, sitting on the bench for a minor D1.

Just a little FYI, not every school announces they are going to showcases. Some don't want the influx of player spam as they are going through their own lists. Rule of thumb is to always notify ANY school you are interested in that you will be at an event even if they aren't listed. If they aren't going they will let you know.

D has played in the Champions Cup loser bracket when her team was invited. 30 plus coaches at each game. Some not top D1s but still some good schools. Even so, there are over 1000 NCAA womens programs, 360ish just in D1. They can't all recruit from the same 20 teams.

For the 19s, most aren't in 11th, they are in 12th and just graduated. Aside from a last shot at a national title why would anyone spend the money to go to CA again?

ECNL had to promote this year and try to bring in more RL teams. With a war of attrition the league who holds the most mid to upper level clubs will win in the end. ECNL had a monopoly as the only place but has lost 30-40% of their placements over the last 6 years. In the next 5 I'd bet on ECNL merging with GA under NWSLnext. I won't be around though, so have fun with that.

Very interesting, I was thinking a merger would be the end game here between ECNL and GA in a few years as well.

Why merge?

Once NWSL aligns with a youth league (most likely GA) all clubs in every other league will join the league NWSL aligned with.

There's no need to merge.

Because it would be easier to just start with everything and start moving pieces into the right spots up front then start off with only a portion and continue the poaching.

Buy the new stock from the same company that rugged DA.

Some people never learn.

MLS rigged DA? Please do tell.

Maybe you don't understand that MLS doesn't own or even run GA. Do some research on the DA/GA connection

Not the OP but rumor was MLS wanted to run their own league but couldn't as long as DA existed so they got US Soccer to give it up which also killed GDA.

He puts out numbers at a time when a bulk of players haven't decided which favors ECNL as they are more pressured to go D1. Even if ECNL got every other D1 spot in 2024 (latest actual verifiable numbers), they wouldn't be anywhere near that 70% that is posted year after year. Facts are even ECNL knows they've lost ground. They used to post a college impact page yearly broken down by conference for D1s and also had P5 and playoff impact. When GDA came around it dropped and has dropped slowly ever since. Between them counting players on clubs who moved to GDA or GA that year to players switching clubs junior/senior years they knew they were no longer the only game in town which is why in 2022 they took it down. Meanwhile you can check the first 3 years of GA and see not only the number of D1s but the numbers of players playing in college rise year after year.

Dude, go look up the ECNL Spring that is also in North Carolina. There is a similar drop from last year to this year. It isn't just GA. Hint: Maybe there is something else going on with college recruiting that could be affecting both leagues?

I think you're right. The one thing notable is that the transfer portal was flooded with entrants this year. I'm wondering if some colleges (it wouldn't take a lot) focused more on filling spots from transfers as opposed to incoming freshmen. No need to attend as many showcases. A Mid major or P4 player with minutes and stats is proven, and there's no longer this expectation that they will be around for the full 4 years. So "if" that's the case you would expect the sharpest drop off in D1 attendance at the GA spring event which is a recruiting event tailored for a different market than Champions Cup and other higher level competitions. Would be interesting to see if there was also a similar drop off rate for D2/3 coaches at the spring event.

More players entered but not so much were picked up. While filling a year or 2 for direct needs is fine no coach wants to band aide a large chunk of their team. You also need to understand how coaches are paid. Most have larger stipends for graduation and grades then they do results like making national playoffs or winning a championship.

Would you gamble on a student who could have their visa revoked for sneezing at a Trump poster?

Isnt Adidas pushing soccer via MLS?Adidas essentially owns the MLS market for apparel. Adidas chose not to renew their contract after 2030. I wonder if this impacts anything, including bawl.

stupid comment but typical of a kamala salad voter.

if they were on a visa (guest in the US) and they were supporting a terrorist organization, absolutely that is grounds for having your visa revoked.
Support America and not terrorists.

There is a post in instagram and x about Skyline and CISC joining new competition tier for MLSNext.

Does anyone know if they mean MLSN2 or this vague new NAL league that is MLSN3?

Also looks like CSA is adding a third ENCL-RL team.
