Torture and sexual violence by Russian forces: At least 36 victims from the pool analyzed mentioned the use of electrocution during interrogations, often genital electrocution by Russian guards. Here's one thing in which Russian soldiers are actually seasoned and competent.

Lol whatever works, Abu Ghraib.

Every defense of Russia boils down to ‘whaddabout’. It’s so compelling.

It is exposing you as a hypocrite.

NP. Not really.

It’s exposing you as a propagandist, and a second-rate one at that.

You should travel more. Every time a non-American, non-European person hears American or European pontification about the evils of invading other countries or human rights, they roll their eyes. Very, very deeply. Almost disappearing into the skull.

First it was drones and then HIMARS. With depressing regularity, a new wonder weapon has been touted as a game changer for Ukraine only for its luster to dim as Russia adapts to it.

I don't think many people get the significance of Russia shooting down Storm Shadow missiles. They are small, stealthy and fast. If they can be shot down, what does it mean for aircraft?

Kinda like how the Patriots shot down the far faster hypersonic missiles?

That was the Ghost of Kiev that shot down the Kinzhal.

It’s amazing that you know every non-American and non-European. It’s even more amazing that you’re there for these conversations every time. It’s like you decided that since you’ve abandoned credibility long ago, just go with the radical generalizations and see if something sticks.

Russia "adapts" but only after first incurring huge losses. And all the while, the Ukrainian side continues to adapt and incur yet more losses on Russia.

LOL you make it sound like Ukraine incurs no losses in the meantime. That's the missing element in the Ukrainian war discourse. The Ukrainian losses and casualty rate.

There are a few different numbers out there, all in the neighborhood of 300K KIA. Who knows how many "missing" and captured though.

These articles don’t say anything about Russia shooting down storm shadow missiles.

They say it without saying it, if you know how to read these things: "But since Ukraine began using the missiles in mid-May, "we've not seen tremendous impact on the Russian force," Kofman said, "and part the reason for that is the adaptations in the Russian military that were caused by the introduction of HIMARS last June."

The clunky sentence mixing events from two different weapon systems and two different years is the give away. What adaptations did Russia make to deal with HIMARS last June, that was not of use mid-May, but is now? The most likely answer is a reference to the firmware upgrades made/being made to Russian air defense systems. They now have the "profile" of a Storm Shadow.

There are some good deep dives out there going into the details if you are truly interested.

In other words, your claim is rank speculation.

DP...

Try having that conversation in parts of Africa and the developing world that will now be going hungry because Russia is directly targeting and destroying their food supply.

It's kind of astonishing how pro-Russia people want to presume to complain about "The West's pontificating," while THEY THEMSELVES arrogantly wag fingers and pontificate about "anti-colonialism" while IRONICALLY and HYPOCRITICALLY defending one of the biggest attempts at colonialization of the 2020s, that being Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

You just completely negate and de-legitimize your own arguments.

Yeah, saying it's ok to rape, torture, and murder because so and so did it just isn't a winning argument.

These conversations are being had and Africa is blaming sanctions, not Russia. That's because Africa is looking back at the century of strife, war and civilian victims on the continent that have been utterly ignored by the West. But now the West wants them to care about civilian victims somewhere else? What on earth for? To Africa, this is not their war and they resent any attempts to make them care.

They also blame Putin. And told him directly at his embarrassing little summit he tried to hold.
