My feeling is, if it was a top issue for Priddy he’d have challenged one of the other SB members later; Reid is the only one who ever raises the issue. Truth is, Priddy was going to run someday and running now allows him to capitalize on the discontentment some Henry parents have about the boundary change last fall, and which they were already blaming RG for. |
I would agree with you if MO cared about anything other than Montessori. That’s her base, not the area. |
Plus Reid lives in Douglas Park! That's under a mile away. I don't see how this matters. What matters is that our current SB is awful. All of them. Seeing any of them get primaried only encourages more people to run in the future. If Priddy loses, that's a huge vote for status quo and means no one else is likely to attempt it again. If Priddy wins, you could get a lot more candidates trying their luck, especially people with young kids. I see that as a great thing. |
Yes, this. Priddy has NOT committed to booting out Murphy. Reid voted him out. Priddy is not the candidate of change. |
Douglas Park is a different neighborhood. Doesn’t have to be a different zip code, but I have concerns about two candidates from the exact same civic association. Really, I don’t think Priddy is a bad guy, but I don’t think he’s a candidate for change if he’s not running against someone else. It’s cool if he’s just trying to get his name out there for next time. But I won’t vote for him this year. You need 3 people for a voting bloc. Makes no sense to pick off one of the people in that bloc if what you want is new leadership at the top. Also, I don’t agree that the SB is entirely awful. Most of them inherited a s*** sandwich. Whenever they try to address the s*** sandwich, some parent group screams bloody murder or threatens a lawsuit. No big surprise that all the major initiatives are punted or watered down to be ineffective. If we want better from them, we have to better ourselves. |
You’re overlooking the fundamental fact that elected leaders should lead appropriately. |
Yeah the ACDC was “surprised”. Pleasantly pleasantly surprised. I’m surprised Reid is running again. I guess he’s a glutton for punishment. Whatever. Go ahead vote for another NVD. She and Priddy can form a new block with Talento. Have at it. |
I don't agree. The SB has factions, and IMO, its NVD who needs to go. That would change things. As long as she's on the board, it'll be biz as usual. |
+100 Everyone angry about one or another issue with APS should really try to take a clear-eyed look at things. Priddy is running b/c the entire Henry community is mad about the elementary boundary process. I'd really like to know what exactly their preferred outcome was that didn't totally shaft another school full (or half full, ha) of APS students who are just as entitled to a good education as theirs, or how is it that a "promise" made to a small subset of the community 3 years ago under different circumstances should trump what is best for the entire community, but I digress. The point is that within the process that was set, and yes, yes, maybe Drew shouldn't have been a neighborhood school at all but that ship had sailed, the outcome was simply not that bad. I completely disagree that re-electing Reid is a vote for the status quo. Reid openly talks about the segregation in our schools and would like to do something about it. He's only one vote, though, and if you vote him out he will be zero votes. IMO voting out Lander was a message and it would be great if that message could be furthered by voting out NVD or Talento, though frankly neither of them is my least favorite at this point. BK has that crown with all her pandering b.s., putting up motions she knows there's no support for just so she can say she was in favor of some niche issue. |
+1,000,000 I fully support Reid and will vote for nearly anyone who runs against any of the other candidates, especially NVD. |
Like sending his own kids to school in North Arlington rather than their neighborhood schools? |
No, seriously. They didn't know he was coming. The people in the room were shocked when he walked in. It was a total surprise. And for all of you who like Reid, I lost all respect for him during the 4th HS stuff and this recent boundary process. I tried to work with him. But he is not competent. And he did squat for diversity. Zero. They were all 5-0 votes. And bad votes. I'm voting for the outsider who is willing to say APS needs to be held accountable and be more transparent. Because it does. And knocking off one incumbent puts all the rest on notice. |
LOL. Yup, Reid is a limousine liberal like the rest of ‘em. As long as HIS kids aren’t affected..... |
They can’t be transparent b/c their going in assumptions are that the demographic bulge of kids is temporary, and we will return to status quo of families moving to FFX as happened 90s-2007. |
It's ironic that Arlington County is projecting continued growth while APS ... |
