One problem I have with Priddy running now is where he lives. We already have an Arlington Heights resident on the SB. Since we don’t have district representatives, I would prefer there be only one rep on the SB or the CB from any one neighborhood at a time. It would be too unbalanced and one small area would have outsized influence.
I would agree with you if MO cared about anything other than Montessori. That’s her base, not the area.
Plus Reid lives in Douglas Park! That's under a mile away. I don't see how this matters. What matters is that our current SB is awful. All of them. Seeing any of them get primaried only encourages more people to run in the future. If Priddy loses, that's a huge vote for status quo and means no one else is likely to attempt it again. If Priddy wins, you could get a lot more candidates trying their luck, especially people with young kids. I see that as a great thing.
Douglas Park is a different neighborhood. Doesn’t have to be a different zip code, but I have concerns about two candidates from the exact same civic association. Really, I don’t think Priddy is a bad guy, but I don’t think he’s a candidate for change if he’s not running against someone else. It’s cool if he’s just trying to get his name out there for next time. But I won’t vote for him this year. You need 3 people for a voting bloc. Makes no sense to pick off one of the people in that bloc if what you want is new leadership at the top. Also, I don’t agree that the SB is entirely awful. Most of them inherited a s*** sandwich. Whenever they try to address the s*** sandwich, some parent group screams bloody murder or threatens a lawsuit. No big surprise that all the major initiatives are punted or watered down to be ineffective. If we want better from them, we have to better ourselves.
You’re overlooking the fundamental fact that elected leaders should lead appropriately.
