ASFS/Key Swap Off . . .

Anonymous
If they’re actually going to eliminate any option programs, that’s going to be a crazy battle. Moving immersion may happen eventually, but that doesn’t have to be done during this round of boundary changes. Maybe it will be, but it may be logistically too nightmarish. I think the concept of a swap was shown to be a lot of effort for little return and I would be surprised if they went back to that plan. Giving it a completely new location thereby displacing an existing neighborhood school, on the other hand, will be a huge disruption as well. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Why is there no movement at all? I thought something is happening in June??

June is the K-12 pathways, which will presumably inform what options/programs APS will offer and/or expand. That has to happen before they decide if any programs/schools move.

So will they likely announce option school locations with pathways?

No. This first, then locations/boundaries.

I think they've finally reached the point where there is no non-disruptive option available anymore. There were various points where they could have made a different decision (Wilson site for a new elementary instead of HB Woodlawn, leaving some form of neighborhood preference at Key and Claremont, not promising Reed as a neighborhood school, stripping option status from ATS the same time as ASFS, not emphasizing the sanctity of walkzones, etc), but now they have painted themselves in a corner. It's going to be a show.

They have zero good options. I think they have less appetite for moving programs than for crazy boundaries, so my guess is that they will keep programs where they are and draw weird boundaries instead. Moving an entire program is a battle against hundreds. Drawing boundaries is usually a battle against dozens.

Happy to be proven wrong, but that's how I see things shaking out.

I does blow my mind how one of the most well financed school systems in the country continues to eff up so much stuff.

^^^ This. Every time I am with a group of APS parents the constant refrain is how pissed off we all are at APS and what a crappy job Murphy is doing with what used to be a great system. I am voting for David Priddy for school board and I hope you all join me. Consistency and transparency -- that's what I want!

In the area, not the country.

I would vote for him if he were up against NVD for sure. It looks like Priddy is running against Goldstein specifically because he has a grudge against him, though. Not a great reason to run for school board.

Also Reed was one of the two votes against extending Murphy's contract.

What is his grudge? Priddy is an Arlington Heights resident and not redistricted during boundary change. I have a grudge Reed however.

Just wait until the shrug it off, lowball projections about amazon adding students to the school system prove to be wildly wrong.

I'm pretty sure he's running because he's an Arlington native with two young kids in the system and he's frustrated because APS is rapidly going downhill. I'm sure he would run against any of them. In my mind the entire board gets a vote of no confidence.

But Reid in particular is really weak. He may have that one good vote against Murphy to his credit, but he's still not an effective advocate for anything.

Priddy seems like a nice, ambitious guy - who was going to run for office sooner or later. Reid just happens to be an easy target so the timing was right. That is generally what drives politicians, ambition. But, I also wouldn’t be surprised if Priddy was “encouraged” by the ACDC which probably would prefer a candidate who doesn’t make a peep about how segregated our schools are.

Priddy was not encouraged by the ACDC. They were surprised when he filed, although I am sure they welcome him, as having primary challengers is healthy and good for the system.

And how do you know he doesn't care about segregation? Have you asked him?
Anonymous
One problem I have with Priddy running now is where he lives. We already have an Arlington Heights resident on the SB. Since we don’t have district representatives, I would prefer there be only one rep on the SB or the CB from any one neighborhood at a time. It would be too unbalanced and one small area would have outsized influence.
