My real estate taxes just assessed 6% higher. My home will not sell for more though. 70% of FfX county taxes go to schools and Health & Human services. Yes I pay. Dearly |
And you benefit greatly. A new generation of educated Americans is the engine for economic growth. |
Such BS. Let’s bring in that “new generation” legally. We have laws. Let’s enforce them. |
You are speculating Typical liberal |
No problem staying on topic. Answer the question. You said you care about our laws. So do I. I am wondering if you are as preoccupied with law-breaking of the Bundy's, for example. Or Arpaio. Or is this more about brown people breaking the law. It's pertinent to the conversation because so much of the propaganda of the Trump administration and their supporters is thinly veiled racism. The "caravan frenzy" is the latest example. I'm curious if you're as passionate about whites breaking our laws. So answer the question. |
You're inferring that illegal immigrants are consumers of most of this. Where is your evidence? |
Start a new thread. We are talking about illegal immigration here. The Bundys have nothing to do with that. |
Not the pp. Former FCPS teacher here. Check out the cost of ESOL services in schools. HUGE. Over 1/3 of the students in FCPS speak a language other than English at home. How many of these are here illegally? We don’t know because they don’t report - they don’t even ask when they are enrolled. They are not allowed to. But, you can bet that a large number of these are illegal. When illegal aliens come here and they are not academically literate in their own language, they use a huge number of resources in this country. |
This--plus, I'm pretty sure that FCPS acquired 1000 new ESOL students when the last administration let in the unaccompanied minors. I am not making up this number--I read it. I'll try to find the source. Are you aware that these kids can stay in public schools until the age of 22? Are you aware of the fact that some of the teens are not literate in their native language--much less English? Do you have any idea of the additional resources needed to educate these kids? It is much more expensive than educating the English speaking child. In addition to ESOL services, there is also a greater need for other Special Education teachers, aides, etc. Social Workers, counselors, and other additional staff add to the expense, as well. And, we are not even addressing the additional need for low income housing, food stamps, and other welfare. Plus, the schools have the added pressure of including these kids in their standardized testing. Schools get dinged if they are not on grade level--no matter that they came here not speaking English and without formal education in many cases. These are resources that lead to limiting resources for other kids whose parents are paying taxes. And, yes, Fairfax County real estate taxes are going up, up, up. |
And, Fairfax County schools are already bursting at the seams. |
Bullsh1t. Have you been to schools recently? There is a huge, LEGAL international presence in this area. Some may be unauthorized but the vast majority are here legally. Just because someone speaks another language and has a different complexion than you doesn’t make them unauthorized. |
As pp pointed out, at least 1000 unaccompanied illegal aliens who entered the country a few years ago were settled in FC.

These children are not illiterate in their native language. Many of those entering illegally are illiterate, or the children of parents who have entered illegally. Of course, those children are citizens now. Another issue we need to address. Don’t tell me these kids don’t impact the quality of education of other students. |
That’s 0.5% of the student population. So let’s support our schools instead of this nonsense. |
Stop being dense. The reasons I bring this up is that so many anti-immigration nonsense in this thread is based in supposed "rule of law" ... but only, it seems, when it pertains to brown people. I'll let your deflection stand as a response. Think we both know it's not the law you're so worried about. |
But but but...the GOP propaganda machine says that “illegals” are responsible for TONS of crimes. Why would PP care about FACTS when he hears what he wants from FoxNews? It doesn’t matter to him that the rate of crime for undocumented immigrants is LOWER than it is for people born in US. Because to him it FEELS like they should be more violent. So if FoxNews hints at that then he eats it up. Fuels that fear and anger big time. Personally, I'm more fearful of angry white men, who are statistically more likely to rape and/or murder me. Something should be done about these violent offenders... |
