Like why do you all care so much? What affect will it have on your daily life? Is it the thought that somewhere in America a family without the proper paperwork and time in bureaucratic limbo might be having a happier and higher quality of life? Does that keep you awake at night? That someone might be getting something for free? Why doesn’t it bother you that rich Americans get unearned benefits at your expense? Your economic unease is due to money grubbing top .01% of Americans, not Hispanics fleeing countries torn apart by America’s insatiable appetite for illegal narcotics.
My real estate taxes just assessed 6% higher. My home will not sell for more though. 70% of FfX county taxes go to schools and Health & Human services. Yes I pay. Dearly
You're inferring that illegal immigrants are consumers of most of this. Where is your evidence?
Not the pp. Former FCPS teacher here. Check out the cost of ESOL services in schools. HUGE. Over 1/3 of the students in FCPS speak a language other than English at home. How many of these are here illegally? We don’t know because they don’t report - they don’t even ask when they are enrolled. They are not allowed to. But, you can bet that a large number of these are illegal. When illegal aliens come here and they are not academically literate in their own language, they use a huge number of resources in this country.
Bullsh1t. Have you been to schools recently? There is a huge, LEGAL international presence in this area. Some may be unauthorized but the vast majority are here legally. Just because someone speaks another language and has a different complexion than you doesn’t make them unauthorized.
As pp pointed out, at least 1000 unaccompanied illegal aliens who entered the country a few years ago were settled in FC.
According to the agency, only Los Angeles, Miami, one border county in Texas and two counties near New York City have received more such children in the past seven months. Fairfax has recieved 1,023 children, Prince George’s has received 960 and Montgomery has received 816. The District has received about 200.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/maryland-virginia-suburbs-receive-surge-of-border-kids-from-central-america/2014/08/27/f8ca07a0-2e26-11e4-9b98-848790384093_story.html?utm_term=.9324d46c254a Much of the “international” presence in FC are children of diplomats and people working in DC. These children are not illiterate in their native language. Many of those entering illegally are illiterate, or the children of parents who have entered illegally. Of course, those children are citizens now. Another issue we need to address. Don’t tell me these kids don’t impact the quality of education of other students.
That’s 0.5% of the student population. So let’s support our schools instead of this nonsense.
