Agree. I use to think we should buy so we could have our kids would go to Haycock, so glad we had better sense not to. Haycock parents are crazy and seem to not be pleased unless the school is being run on their terms. Psychos!

i I wonder if this makes you feel good about yourself? Calling people you never met names. A post like this reflects upon your character. You clearly were not at the meeting. There were no “Psychos” present. Admin agreed to the meeting. Progress is being made. We are hoping trust and respect between teachers and staff can also be made. |
Not at Haycock, but sound like you're just miffed that parents there know how to advocate successfully on behalf of their kids, when you don't. It's obvious this was a top-down proposal that hadn't been properly vetted first with the teachers or community. I'm sure there are schools run by autocratic principals with no input from teachers or parents, but they probably aren't the types of places where you'd want to send your own kids. |
| The logical next step would be for another meeting between the admin and staff, perhaps mediated by FCPS to see if something can be done to get everyone on a similar page, if not the same. Agree with the post about how this is was just one issue, or as the teacher said, this was "the straw...". If teachers still plan to leave, then this is a Pyrrhic victory. I would hope, for the good of the students and the school, both sides would get together with an open mind, see how they can make it work - JD needs to see how these great teachers think, what they need to succeed, what he can do to improve the environment and stick around. At the same time, some understanding on the staff's part of what he's trying to do (if he would tell them?) might go a long way to improving the working relationship. |
| Who hired that principal? Did the teachers have a say? Where was he before? I think it is a Fairfax county schools issue and the parents should reach out to FCPS for what rights a principal has |
Judging from your posts, you're the one who seems to be a negative person and more likely to be a psycho than Haycock parents. |

Hey, "psycho" parent here, happy with the result - not changing a key feature of our school's educational delivery is a win in my book. Next thing is to keep these teachers. Forget about the haters.
That being said, if admin and FCPS and whoever have real, fact based reasons to make changes, definitely open to hearing them. But Haycock has a reputation as a high performing school for a reason, and that is based on those teachers, draws those teachers, and the parents are motivated and on and on - don't think it's much different at any number of schools in the area, though from the views and responses on this thread - well, people are interested. |
Judging from your eloquent prose and mastery of grammar (read: sarcasm), I think you would have benefitted from a Haycock education. |
You are really digging your own hole here with your come back comments. Especially after YOU bashed parents for supposedly being crazy. I guess its not just the "Haycock" parents. |
DP here. It doesn't seem like parents speaking up for what they believe to be in the best interests of the school's students and teachers means the inmates are running the asylum. That's what PP keeps trying to imply, just so she can take a dig at Haycock. I don't have kids there, but I drive by the school regularly. You can tell the parents are engaged, and there are a lot of new houses being built near the school. There's literally a lot of investment in that community, and it shouldn't surprise anyone that the parents aren't passive types who'll just roll over because the principal woke up one morning and decided he wanted change, especially for reasons that he apparently wasn't able to articulate very well. |
you can tell parents are engaged, because you drive by the school?! you must be psychic. |
There are always a lot of parents walking with their kids to school and gathering in groups to chat. I mean maybe they are just gossiping about you, but I get the impression from what I see and read they care about the school. |
There are always a lot of parents walking with their kids to every school and gathering in groups to chat, because every school has walkers. In most schools kids are walkers or kiss and riders. But anyway, you seem to think you're adept at drawing conclusions, so I'll leave you to your own self proclaimed glory. |
You have some serious issues. Get help. |
