Thank you. This county can’t afford to have 1/3 of its high schools be perceived as sub par... We need middle class families to move to south Arlington, and stay in the schools. What is the school board doing to encourage that? People leave Yorktown and W-L too for choice programs. Yorktown - perceptions that it has a toxic, entitled rich-kid culture. W-L - way overcrowded. A 4th HS will fix the W-L problem. For the Yorktown culture, it seems that's more a parenting problem. |
| Did anyone else notice that Tuckahoe took down its moral cohesion letter? |
From the APS website? Good, that should never have been there. |
| Loved seeing the walk zone responses published online. The Tuckahoe people just did a copy and paste response. Makes them seem like mindless lemmings. |
This is reflective of the self identified 'Moral Cohesion'. Similar behaviors can found in the Borg and Drones. By converting Tuckahoe to a Choice school we can help prevent inbreeding among the neighbors. |
Yeah. That's the light inside this dark cloud. |
| Any updates on which school will become an option/choice? It looks like Tuckahoe might keep some PUs south and east of Lee and Sycamore so is it safe? |
Draft recommendations for school location are supposed to be posted on April 12. Get your popcorn ready! |
by keep do you mean added those PU's to the walk zone?? If so no I don't think so. Here is the updated map- https://www.apsva.us/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/ES_Tuckahoe_WZ_Policy_Round2.pdf here is the updated map for Reed- https://www.apsva.us/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/ES_Reed_WZ_Policy_Round2.pdf 16120 and 16121 are not in the walk zone for either school. 16040, 16050, and 16130 are listed as possible for Reed walk zone |
If you look at the maps that way, you aren't understanding it. These maps are about which units do or could walk to different schools. If you look at overlays among multiple schools in a region you might see the same planning unit appear as walkable on multiple schools' maps. That unit won't end up at all of the schools. It is about the art of the possible in terms of maximizing the number of walkers and minimizing buses as they shift boundaries. |

The suspense is killing me...the day of reckoning has finally arrived.
Did the Tuckahoe nuclear option work? This is turning into a real nail biter. Time for the popcorn. |
I don't get it. What was the Tuckahoe nuclear option? |
Please refer to the previous 20+ pages. |
It will be tragic to lose the home and garden tour. It really helps build the moral cohesion. |

They said from the start that they would submit two proposals: one with potential moves, and one keeping the status quo.
My prediction: the proposal with potential moves will be so bold that after all the screaming stops all over Arlington, everyone will wholeheartedly embrace the status quo. It would be brilliant, actually. The board isn't going to make any bold changes, but entertaining a proposal containing them will make them look like they're really being bold. And then they can blame the lack of change to all the blowback they received on that plan. |
