RIP Prince

I know, right?

I mean who could have possibly guessed what would happen to Prince given his extensive drug abuse?

Or Elvis? Or Joplin? Or Michael Jackson? Or Whitney? Or Hendrix?

I mean, it is all just SO unpredictable, right??!

Exactly. Amazing how we're all so surprised.

Could you all start your own thread based on your Prince/drug connection so that those of us who are truly mourning him can commiserate and not get sidetracked by those promulgating tabloid fodder as absolute fact? This revisionist rant above reads like a "which one of these things isn't like the other???" Remind me of the Janet Jackson like interventions that went on for Prince, or anything like Whitney's drug addled public appearances?

Many of us life long fans are deeply mourning, and those who followed his career and personal life would be shocked if these allegations are true. But that isn't the point of RIP Prince, and out of respect for us, I truly ask you to move along. It isn't productive, and at least one of you clearly has an agenda based on their own personal pain with their sister's addiction. Quite a lot of projection going on here and using Prince as a proxy. If it comes out he did have an addiction, I certainly wouldn't be a denier. But right now is the time to mourn his loss and celebrate his amazing contribution to all our lives. I would appreciate it if you would honor that.

Push (I push) don't U let them pull U down
Yeah, push (I push ) until U get 2 higher ground
Hey, push - U're never 2 young, U're never 2 old
Yeah push - don't stop until U go

Did U ever stop 2 wonder
Why U put another down?
No man should asunder
The joy that another man found
Maybe U thought the business U was worried
Wasn't ever filed in your name
Maybe the cartridge U was playin'
Don't fit in your video game

He danced. He was a fashion icon. Bruno Mars? Meh. He dances and sings. Same with Beyoncé. Even Michael Jackson wasn't as accomplished in terms of his range- he was a singer and dancer. Prince was the full package. The amount of talent that man possessed for so many different things was incredible.

Sorry, I loved Prince and is music, but I will not allow you to diminish Michael's talent unchecked. Michael also wrote his own lyrics and music. He also sang, danced, and produced. Michael also played with other artists and wrote songs for them. Michael's "Thriller" was the first time that MTV aired a Black artist, to be followed by Prince. People like to compare Michael and Prince, but apparently they admired and respected each other. They both contributed enormously to the industry and other people's lives. It need not be one or the other, as they did not view it that way. Carry on.

Plus 1. I am the person that wrote that Prince is the biggest artist in 30 years (other than MJ). Did you see the interview where people asks Prince of he regretted not doing Bad with MJ? Hillarious!

I didn't. Please share. TIA

Why didn't he get his full treatment at the hospital when he was there?

I'm a huge MJ fan too. I didn't mean he wasn't talented. Obviously he was. Just IMO Prince was more talented.

Yes, he was extraordinarily talented.

He was truly amazingly talented. Unforgettable. The world has really lost a legend.

Seriously. There are like a thousand threads here about how Sibley is so horrible because you could possibly end up in a shared room.

I've never heard of a public figure sharing a hospital room (unless it's with another celebrity). Never. Does that even happen?

Agreed, although I can enjoy them it's really the musicianship that I find lacking in so many of today's artists. A vocalist with a live band beats autotune and a synthesizer any day.
