America is just completely broken

Do you know how China managed this…they’re an authoritarian country that doesn’t bid on contracts. They’re given to billionaire cronies. There’s not a lot of safety measures in place for the building of it.

Also, America is a car culture. You can’t build something you don’t know if people are going to use.

DC > NY is a popular route, but like anything you need a cost benefit analysis. IDK what that would look like. Friends told me last night that they’re not taking the Acela this weekend to NYC because it was too expensive.

How could we vote for that?

I don't know but could the Democrats pick a worse person to prosecute their Epstein case against Trump? So, disturbing how we ended up with those two on the ballot in 2016.

Or Asia in general.

Americans who haven't traveled much have zero clue how far we are falling behind the modern world. It is amazing what countries can build when they're not throwing away $5 trillion dollars down the toilet in the middle east.

We went to Japan and it is just mind blowing how everything works. Trains are on time. Trash gets picked up. World class infrastructure. Virtually no crime. South Korea, the same thing. Singapore the same thing. Taiwan the same. Even a country like Thailand had much more affordable healthcare in our experience (broke arm cost $240 total to treat with zero insurance). We haven't been to China yet, but their progress with regards to modernization is blowing the US out of the water. Many areas of the US are stuck in like 1960s development and have gone downhill since.

All of those countries care for their citizens and do not allow unchecked immigration. Also, they vet the immigrants. Also, they don't have a lot of DiVerSIty.

Go figure. Hmm.

it smacks you in the face and STILL we have this push for more and more immigration.

isn't this just because the US is the only nation with diversity? maybe Brazil as well? When there is just one diverse nation, the statisical uncertainty on any conclusion you draw from it is 100%

No. Canada's population has 23% immigrants. It's around 16% for the USA.

A comparison of the Harvard and Goren maps show that the most diverse countries in the world are found in Africa. Both maps also suggest that the United States falls near the middle, while Canada and Mexico are more diverse than the US.

That is the American way since the 70s.

Read about the times where government actually FUNDED education, and community pools, and community activiites and supports. THAT is how you make America great again.

No that is communist, that idea was proven wrong in the 70s

Every year, 1000+ US medical students fail to match, while 6000+ FMGs do match. About half of unmatched students find a spot, but they must still compete with FMGs for the leftover positions, leaving 500 - 600 US medical students with a worthless medical degree.

Why?

we are broken and controlled by special interests

I don’t think you want the bottom 1 percent of medical students as your doctor?

There is a shortage of skilled doctors in the US.

We should be allowing more visas/greencards to foreign trained medical students/residents/fellows/doctors.

Cuba is a very integrated society that would be incredibly successful if not for petty spite by a bunch of white (and one black) presidents who have never been to Cuba and get their advice from a bunch of imperialists who cosplay in Miami as actual Cubans. Sanctions should have been lifted a long time ago.

Look at some of our other great trading partners: China, Germany, Japan, and Britain. Also Viet Nam and most recently Syria, among others. They have an amazing history with the US.

In fact, the fake Cubans in America such as Marco Rubio are more racist than the actual Cubans in Cuba.

It'll be a shame if war comes to Cuba when Haiti has needed more help for years.

What does Maga care about high quality medical professionals? A top doctor would probably tell them to vaccinate their kid against measles and they don't want to hear that.

In theory yes. But in practice no. Not when we haven't tried to fix the poverty, education, and opportunity problems that exist for a great percentage of Americans. We can't continue to supplant the lower class who have deliberately not been given a fighting chance in America with foreigners that have been given every opportunity in their home countries and are just trying to level up in America. That just exacerbates the socioeconomic divide. People who think this is okay are just being selfishly myopic and this stasis in America is not sustainable. With private equity and AI taking over as well, the lower class will protest and possibly revolt in the near future if safeguards are not already implemented.

Better if we allowed qualified American students to go to medical school without having to jump through so many hoops and take way more years than FMGs. Many smart capable students decide against medical school because of all the crazy admissions requirements that are not required in other countries.

In the other end, there is a huge growing shortage of doctors and so many practices looking to hire yet can’t find any doctors.

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot- that’s what America is doing.

Also, corporations should not be able to donate so much money to politicians. The special interests is destroying this country.

Not true

But you already knew that

1367 US medical students did not get a US residency spot.

6733 international, non-US medical students got a US residency spot.

Almost 7% US students are replaced with cheaper foreign workers with lower credentials

Anonymous
Why do we reject US grads and use cheaper foreign workers?

Same story for medical doctors , for programmers and for landscapers

Because they are cheaper

Screw US citizens. Let US rich get richer

And blame and intelligent discussion on RACIST!!!

And the costs to go to medical school. Direct and indirect. Oh you need direct patient care experience to be desirable (shadowing your Ortho uncle at the hospital) and research experience on the bench (taking two summers to be an unpaid intern at a Hopkins) and volunteer work showing your ability to care for the misfortunate (soup kitchen work) while people who actually have to work to pay back loans and cant afford summers unpaid and who have actually worked in healthcare arent desirable enough candidates.

Actually Obama helped open it up. So many people went and visited when he did that.
