Obviously Obama is American, but his childhood is more complicated than this, which is why the conspiracy theory could take root, between his dad and the time Obama was raised in Indonesia. So people who chose to believe Trump had some kernel to cling to to make themselves feel like they were the smart ones who figured it out. What Trump is doing now is just making stuff up that's clearly not supported by anything.

I think the ultimate downfall of Biden and the Democrats at the last election is that people were repeatedly told we weren't seeing what we knew we were seeing first hand. Now MAGA is really starting to go down the same path. We know what we saw in Minnesota. We know what we're seeing on other videos. We know Trump posted that and it's racist. My sincere hope is that that attitude of "you're wrong about what you know you're seeing" will be Trump's downfall. Because it doesn't appear anything else will take hold.

Having one american parent is all someone needs to prove they were a citizen. That was obvious from birth and also consistent throughhis childhood and adulthood. They believed a conspiracy theory that made no sense because they wanted to.

Its all linear. They are so used to Trump making fun of people and telling lies about them that it just flies over their head that Trump is demoralizing the Obamas by being blatantly racist. It all starts with conspiracy theories though. And then leads to dehumanizing.

And btw Obamas dad wasnt from Indonesia. He was from Africa and met Obama's mom in Hawaii where it was already recorded they lived when they had him. All of this was very publicly recorded information. Tons of people work overseas and Obama was far from the first person with a parent who wasn't a citizen and a family that worked overseas. It was just racial targeting and conspiracy theory to suggest the target was the liar not Trump who made the whole thing up. He was testing the waters to see how gullible and racist Americans were. A decade later here we are. Till people start speaking out, we will continue to live in a world of actions based on lies.
