Who are you voting for in the Dem primary for mayor?

So that’s your next move? Saying not only will this mayor ruin NYC, he will also ensure total annihilation of all Dems across the country? Did that talking point survey well for you?

Ya’ll are so damned obvious. And still not actually from NY *C*.

I've provided plenty of proof I'm from NYC. You have done nothing. I think the whole argument is pathetic and childish and sad, but I played along. Where do you live? Where do your kids (if you even have any) go to school? If private, what public are you zoned for? Favorite local pizza spot? Favorite host on NY1 (you probably have no idea what I'm talking about since you don't live here)?

What proof?

1. No
2. d2.
3. Di faras. Not totally local but #1.
4. Don’t watch and that’s an odd ? and seems designed to seem ‘in the know’ even though it’s not.

Ok questions back to you as above 👆 plus, and anyone who wants to show they’re from NYC and have any legitimate business commenting on this race:

1. What animal is subway famous and why?
2. Name the most frustrating issue with citibikes. Several answers will be accepted
3. On the next door neighbor app for NYC neighborhoods, what is the most common topic? Again, multiple answers will be accepted.

1. Assuming you mean rats if one could call a rat an animal. Because they are everywhere and gross.
2. Finding a place to dock - the station is full when you want to go there.
3. I don't know anyone who uses that app. I have heard of it so not discrediting you, just don't know it. To show my street cred, I am uptown and everyone I know reads West Side Rag or I Love the UWS.
Regarding NY1, the question is perhaps a bit dated. But it is a cult favorite among many. Pat Kiernan in the morning? I actually haven't watched in a while but used to have it on a lot. I was more testing to see if you even knew hat it was.

See. We both live here. This is fun. Yeah team.

NP. This could also be a wealth, class, neighborhood divide. Neither I nor any of my friends ride the subway, take a citibike, or use a next door neighbor app. And we've all been here for 40+ years.

DP. I’m from NJ, so obviously not NYC. And in my 50 years I have yet to meet any NYCer who would change their vote for their mayor because it could affect what someone in GA does in a totally different election.

That wasn’t the point. Georgians could love a potential Governor Greene but wouldn’t do it if it risked the GOP losing both houses of Congress. Unlike the stupidity of Mamdani voters, they’d be more strategic than to sink the national party over some 30-something on TikTok. The selfishness of his supporters is astounding.

It’s a funny stance, because so many Mamdani voters are from flyover states and escaped to NY to avoid the Trump politics they are inadvertently fueling. Long term residents from the outer boroughs of all races and creeds voted for Cuomo[/quote]

Dp. First anyone who says flyover states is just a douche. Sorry. You think you’re being cool or elite, but it makes you sound dumb and myopic.

Second, not particularly accurate but in any event most people didn’t ‘vote for Cuomo’. They ranked him. Many people who ranked Cuomo first or second also ranked lander first or second, and those people are mostly moving to Mamdani

I am objectively an elite, and not because I live in NY and have money (family and from my career). Flyover state is a fair term. When have you spent a family vacation in Biloxi or Bismarck?

Someone living on the UES in high finance who went to St. B’s and then Deerfield has no idea what public they are zoned for, may not like pizza, and will never watch NY1 or know a host’s face and name. Go back to Ohio/Wisconsin and tell your extended family how great chopped cheese is to pretend to be cosmopolitan (lol!).

You are going to die on this hill, aren't you? So sad. If you live in NYC, it is the far reaches of Staten Island in the middle of a landfill.

Not sure why I am wasting my time with ignorant, low class trash who gets their jollies out of saying people don't live where they say they do. And if they are so confident, they refuse to say a word about where they do live. Ashamed to live in a landfill? Or do you live in your mom's basement in Alabama?

People on SI don’t know what the B in St. B’s stands for. I don’t hold it against them.

You are the one repeatedly saying other posters don’t live in the city. I was born here and have lived here for over 40 years. Living in the city isn’t an accomplishment, a personality, or anything to write home about. It’s banal and just a place that meets my career and family needs. It isn’t particularly interesting or noteworthy, hence I don’t understand the hang up. I write a lot here about private school choices and real estate.

It is interesting you have a vocal and low opinion of SI and Alabama. Their residents have every reason to disdain Mamdani and many of his supporters who share your views. They work, eat, go to the john, and get by like everyone else (including lifelong Manhattanites who went to Buckley-St. Grottlesex and have 4,000+ sf lofts in Tribeca, it is not something I’d share except you keep demanding doxing information).

You initiated the "you don't live in NYC" discussion. And then repeated it over and over and over and got childish and angry about it. The only way to get through to you was to do "I know you are but what am I." I live in NYC. But I have also lived in very different parts of the country for a few years. So I actually respect "flyover country" more than 99% of New Yorkers. And I know what they think. And they are laughing at us right now. Many New Yorkers don't care because they think they are better than these people. But their votes count just as much (if not more) than ours.

But you will once again redirect the conversation to meet your needs and prove your pointless points.

And nice humblebrag. To prove my street cred, the best deli/bodega in your neighborhood is on the west side of Hudson just below Canal - sketchy but they make good sandwiches at low prices. It meets a need, especially since Jin Market closed a few years ago.

Exactly. Mamdani makes NY look like a sick joke. I give it two months into office until he’s politically dead (like Adams became after about two years, arguably later) and the city counts the seconds until he’s kicked to the curb

The problem is that that is exactly when Trump starts to beat up on him. And use New York City as an example of what a mess Democrat run places are. I hate Trump with a passion. His behavior and attitude disgust me. I hate that we have to deal with him. But these are the current rules of the game and we need to consider them when making choices. I don't like Mamdani at all but would take him any day of the week over Trump. But Trump is president, he is nasty, angry, vindictive and has congress and the courts behind him. So Democrats need to stop shooting ourselves in the foot and living in fantasy land.

Chicken little. Jesus. I can’t believe you would even suggest we change candidates because of Trump’s bullying.

Mamdani would tank a number of House races for the Dems and gives Trump an easy talking point. Have fun with your crappy government grocery store with expired, grade D produce.

To the “objectively elite”: Using “flyover state” absolutely makes you sound dumb and myopic.

I’m from one of the states you apparently love to disparage. I guess you’ll never know its beauty or its people. That’s unfortunate for you. Your world is smaller and less rich than it could be.

Unironically using the phrase “objectively elite” is actually pretty funny (but in a “you’re the joke” kind of way).

I will admit I haven’t followed this thread enough to even know which side that person is on anymore (pro or anti Mamdani) but sadly could see it being used by either

You’re not an elite and would struggle to define what a Manhattan elite is with any specificity. Hence why you have no idea how damaging Mamdani is, a city of proles and peasants has no bright future.

No one is disparaging flyover America other than Mamdani and some of his supporters. They are wiser voters than the NY Dems in the primary for rejecting the policies he advocates.

A couple good NY friends are voting South FL.

And why wouldn’t they? There are some amenities only found in NY that the stretch from Miami to Palm Beach cannot provide. Are they worth the taxes and vile rhetoric Mamdani spews towards us? No. I’ll take a furnished apartment through Blueground for extended stays and go to the Carlyle for long weekends. I, and tens of thousands of mobile high earners, have no interest in subsidizing Mamdani’s pet projects.

Dp. I agree with the poster above. Using terms like ‘objectively elite’ and ‘fly over’ especially makes you sound ridiculous. Fly over is just such a trashy expression, generally used by some bored do little suburban type from NJ to feel special (and yes I know I’m being a snob myself)
