I am all for trolling the other side, and this Trump stunt, albeit hilarious, is certainly fair game. But at least be creative and funny. Trump has made numerous un-staged stops at McDonalds, including during this campaign, and there are plenty of pics and new stories to show that. This was about him WORKING at a McDonalds, which I assume Bubba did not do. Again, totally fair game to make fun of Trump for this, but tweets like this are just nonsensical. |
I'll take the "might be" over the "definitely is" shit person. And let's be honest - for all of the MAGA attempts at "flooding the zone" with shit, the number of shit things about Trump still remains vastly greater, damaging and consequential than any of the "shit" they have tried to dig up on Harris. |
We saw the Trump campaign show up at Primanti Bros unstaged, and it was PURE CRINGE. |
The whole thing is US politics in a nutshell. Trump pretends to work at McDonald's for 15 minutes and claims Harris lied about a college job. It's beyond stupid the level that Trump has dragged politics down to. Maybe he wins, but let's just start the clock then on him being out of politics forever... |
It’s also people at the other end of the spectrum. People from small towns, rural areas, places where there aren’t a lot of opportunities or diversity. Areas where everyone knows everyone else, including all the McDonald’s employees, because they’ve lived there their whole life, and went to school with the McDonald’s employee’s parents or cousin, and go to church with the breakfast shift manager. Places like this might have one or two other fast food restaurants, so it’s not like there are a lot of other places for someone to work after school. It’s impossible to confuse if they worked at McDonald’s or another fast food restaurant because they only have McDonald’s. It’s very easy to remember who worked there 40 years ago, because that’s the only restaurant they could’ve worked at and that’s the only restaurant anyone could’ve eaten at in town, because that’s all there is. They know who worked with them after school because they went all the way K-12 with the same group of people. And if you grow up in a place like that, it’s hard to fathom not remembering who worked where, or how you can forget your coworkers’ names. I grew up in a place like that, except we didn’t even have a McDonald’s until around 1990. (Before that, the closest McDonald’s was about 25-30 miles away.) That area is thick with MAGA folks now, but they’re quieter this go round. They’ll still vote for Trump, but they don’t seem quite as excited. |
We liberals don't find Trump funny. We cringe Everytime we see him. The issue in my opinion is that either we refuse to acknowledge who we are as people in this country or we hope that we are in an alternative universe. We Americans love people without substance. The goofy funny one gets away with a lot. I am sure many of you have been at companies where lower performing staff survive rounds after rounds of layoffs simply because they tend to be likeable.

Trump is not the issue. Trump's personna is a winning issue in some states (that decide the election) in this country. If another guy with Trump's persona comes around he may be similarly successful. It works. See since birth we are bombard with propaganda in this country (it starts with the commercials in your favorite kids cartoons). Our movies often have conspiratorial themes to them. We are told, encouraged and demanded to follow a leader/hero because he/she knows best. This is why Trump will say anything and people will believe it. And if they don't believe it they see it as entertainment. Do you think he will deport 10 millions people? Of course not. Some of his big donors love the cheap labour. Even if he doesn't deport a single person his supports will still love him. All he will need to do will be go on TV have a press conference and entertain us. The rich and powerful in this country have always seen as as commodity that can be play with. It works. |
I love that Trumpistas think this somehow isn’t beyond cringe and totally owns the libs.
Yeah, whatever. |
I grew up in a rural, sparsely-populated red township in PA and the idea of some rich New York billionaire showing up at a McDonalds and play-acting at "work" doesn't sit well with me. |
Have you seen the resume she submitted that the clowns at the Free Beacon FOIAd? She has three relevant jobs on there filling up all the available space. Which one would a “gunner striver” leave off to add four months at McDonald’s? Clerking at a law firm?Schwab? The FTC? https://freebeacon.com/elections/i-did-fries-kamala-harris-claims-she-worked-at-mcdonalds-but-she-never-mentioned-it-until-she-ran-for-president-did-she-really-toil-beneath-the-golden-arches/ |
Unfortunately, a lot the people in that "rural, sparsely-populated red township" are masochists who love to see Trump play-acting their lives. This is a form of entertainment, even though it's pretty degrading. |
I am not the PP, but I’m a Harris voter, albeit one who believes Harris clearly lied about working at McDonalds (but who cares in the face of freaking J6). Here is why this is a good campaign stunt: First, nobody believes he actually worked (eg will get W2 income, went through food safety training, etc.). The people who keep on talking about how this is fake are missing the point. Of course a man with multiple assassination attempts on his life is not opening the drive-through window for random strangers. The idea that he worked a real shift is not the point—nobody who is moved by this ad or voters he is trying to reach expected him to work a full shift. I’m not even sure how that would have been operationally possible given the security issues. But he did, unquestionably, do the actual labor involved for a few minutes. He served the fries. He chatted with the drive-through window and came across as genuine and likeable (and I say that as someone who despises the man). He operated the fryer. He, in other words, showed he wasn’t above getting his hands a little greasy and putting on an apron like millions of other Americans. And, more than that, by just showing up and putting on that apron, he signaled that he thinks that work has dignity, is important, and the people who both work at McDonalds and have to eat rushed meals at McDonalds aren’t beneath him. This is an arrow straight to the heart of the Democrats who really struggle to hide their disdain for working class voters. It is an emotionally brilliant campaign move. I’m dismayed about it since I am a Harris voter, but I can’t help but see the brilliance of the maneuver. The photo of him waving out the window is going to be iconic in political campaign history. |
This is what a lot of people seem to be missing. A lot of people have done these jobs for real — worked until their feet and backs hurt, sweat over grills and fryers, felt their hands grow slimy inside latex gloves, kept their cool as unreasonable customers bullied them, inhaled bleach as they mopped grimy floors, lay in bed at night knowing that they were going to do it all again in the morning. Do these people feel “seen” because a silver-spoon nepo baby put on an apron and leaned out a window handing fries to pre-selected supporters? I did these sorts of low-wage jobs, and I don’t think for a minute that Trump “worked at McDonald’s.” It’s just so weird. This whole conversation is so so weird. |
Exactly. There are only spaces for THREE JOBS on that application form. That's an absolute, undisputable fact. And the positions that she did put on it, "Law Clerk", "Charles Schwab" and "Federal Trade Commission" are a lot more relevant for the job she was applying to than "fries at McDonalds." The Trump campaign just looks ridiculous to me and any other thinking person for trying to peddle this narrative. |
Only business owners, crypto bros, and country club goers who love Trump and have education trusts to pay for their kids' private school think this was a "brilliant move" politically. Anyone who has actually worked a low-wage fast food job knows that cosplaying "working class" is one of the phoniest and most-cringe things a politician can do. |
