Paramount is a strong club in CHRVA but I heard some dramas happened last season across multiple age groups. Does anyone know what really happened with Paramount’s teams last season? This is what I’ve heard-

13-1: coach got fired
16-1: coach quit mid-season
17-1: multiple players quit mid-season

Did this really happen? I know every club has dramas but this seems a bit too much. Is VA Juniors a better alternative?

In regards to Paramount 17-1- Five players quit mid-season, and a bunch quit after the season was over. These departures left only 2 or 3 returning players (out of 15) for their 18u year. A few went to VA Juniors, 2 to Metro Travel and 2 to VAE. If people don’t think that is a lot of players leaving, they are crazy. For those who say that only the bench players leave, that is also totally false. The entire starting line-up from the 17-1 quit this team. This particular team has experienced a ton of attrition since their 13u season (I know from experience), but that is not unique to that one team.

Stop using random threads to wine about various clubs. There used to be a poster with broken English who would complain on all the volleyball threads about the Metro coaching and how the Metro players never reach their full potential. This seems to be a similar poster, but focused on Paramount. This is a thread where you should advertise volleyball activities available in the area, not to bash Paramount or any other club. Just go away or start your own Paramount-bashing thread.

PP asked specifically and the poster provided indisputable data points. You seem to be the same poster that is very triggered when someone says anything about paramount and readily bash the person with broken English. What's your problem? Seriously.

The coaching and vibe at Paramount isn't for everyone- this isn't a personal front against you so be ok with the decisions you and your DD make instead of attacking everyone.

--back to the question that was initially asked before triggered Paramount parent lost it yet again--

PP re: paramount- yes, all those data points are true. My dd was on one of those teams listed and she struggled due to the toxic environment there and how the girls are pitted against each other unless you are a favorite. She almost left volleyball for good which were dark days b/c she absolutely loves the sport. Paramount works for some, not for others just go in eyes wide open.

DD has friends at VAJRs (and other clubes) and while I can't speak from personal experience, I'll say that DD's friends like the vibe, like the overall club. It's less "intense" and that's ok with them. VAElite is also a good option but traveling with the team, not with parents works for some people, not for others.

The 9:59 post was a random, off-topic post, which is absolutely useless for this thread. I am not involved in any way with Paramount: I live in MD and we only see Paramount on the other side of the net. I am sorry your DD didn't have a good year with Paramount, but this is not a reason to turn every volleyball thread into a place to bash Paramount. This may be one of the most pressing problems you have right now, but it is not everybody's problem. You can start a thread called "The truth about Paramount" and go for it. And I have the same problem with those who hate on Metro or other clubs that they don't like.

Back to the original purpose of this thread. I received an email about volleyball activities offered through Montgomery County:

For those of us in town, we are offering a half-day Winter Break Camp weekdays from December 26th - 31st at Wheaton and Potomac Community Centers.

Starting the first week of the new year, we have our usual lineup of Skills Development Clinics!
* Mondays at Midcounty Community Center
* Tuesdays at Potomac Community Center
* Wednesdays at Germantown Community Center
* Thursdays at Wheaton Community Center
* Fridays at Bauer Community Center

Over the winter, our Youth Volleyball League schedules are a bit different than normal! This year, we have the following leagues available in January:
* 12-13s Co-Ed at Churchill High School on Saturdays, 5:30 pm - 9:30 pm
* 12-13s Co-Ed at Long Branch Community Center on Sundays, 10 am - 6 pm
* 14-17s Girls (Mixed Level) at East County CC on Saturdays, 5 - 9 pm
* 14-17s Co-Ed at Midcounty Community Center on Sundays, 3 - 7 pm
Please note that due to gym availability, space in our 14-17s leagues is extremely limited, so register early to secure your player's spot!

Registration is available here starting tomorrow, November 13th!

Someone posted about Evolution VBC on a different thread. I checked them out and I will advertise the opportunity here. Their travel teams cost less ($2200) than most clubs, but they will participate to only one AAU tournament per month. Since they are not part of USAV, they are not bound to CHRVA tryout rules. They organize tryouts on Monday (11/18 and Wednesday 11/20). Give them a try if you live in Alexandria / Franconia and you are still looking for a team:

I feel like the strongest players already found a home, so I expect Evolution to be less competitive than other clubs.

Our DD played with their 15's in-house league last year. It was a good experience as a first time/transition from rec level to something more. They have the full range of players, but at their higher end, I think they attract athletes who either want to have the time to play other sports while getting their vb touches, or who simply don't want to dedicate the amount of time that travel club would entail. In other words, there are some good athletes there, and I wouldn't necessarily write them off (my daughter's team handily beat a few of the local regional clubs at a low-key tournament Evolution ran at the end of the season).

It's a big deal for a 15U rec league player to be part of a team that beats club teams. So congratulations to your DD! However, there are a few keywords that I bolded in your text. I would be interested to read the names of the clubs that lost to a rec league team. That information would give everyone another perspective of the club quality and would help others make informed club choices.

Hate to bump this unnecessarily, but it's certainly not worth a new thread...

Did Paramount ditch Sunshine? Some of their teams are now playing in qualifiers on back-to-back-to-back weekends. The 17s are competing five weekends in a row (four qualifiers + Bid Regionals).

Not here to say whether that's a good or bad thing. Just wow.

I can barely keep track of my DD's team schedule, so wow when I see someone keeping track of the schedule of an entire club.
