It’s not humid but it is hot. It’s been in the 90s at Pomona this week. |
Yup! I would guess she'd have NO problem swapping with someone. Singles for first years are as rare as hens' teeth and generally desired. |
Basement rooms can be nice. One of my kids had a basement room in her first year, and I was worried it would be dark and dingy. It was lovely. It didn't have A/C, but it remained cool on warm days. It was slightly darker than the rooms upstairs, but she was mostly there at night when it was dark anyway, so it wasn't a problem. DC and her roommate decorated in light pastels with BRIGHT posters. It was really pretty! |
And at night it goes back to 60-62. |
For the next 10 days, it's no higher than 90 degrees in the day and 58-64 degrees at night. I don't think it's that bad. |
most kids do not want singles. that’s just false. |
+1 |
DP. Quoted just above is total B.S. I cannot think of any student who wants a roommate, almost everyone wants a single, especially with the current crop of undergrad students. |
Is this a cultural thing? People with an Asian background or international students might have more of an expectation of privacy? I would think your typical American teenager expects to share a dorm room and bathroom in college. |
It could be worse. My DC was in a single with a roommate. It was a small room for one person. |
Yeah people here are throwing me off because most students I know want a roommate. Whether it’s a good idea is a whole other question but many students expect one their freshman year |
Well, I can’t think of any student that wants a single dorm room, everyone wants a roommate. |
Expecting and wanting are two different things. Most American freshman accept that having a roommate is part of the typical college experience and you have to embrace the good and the bad. Not much sense in complaining about it because it’s largely unavoidable. Given the choice, most would choose to avoid the bad and have a single in a heartbeat. |
Did OP ever come back to update how the basement single is going. The forecast for this week for Pomona, CA
Wed. High of 102 Th. High of 108 (not a typo-one hundred eight) Frid. High of 107 Sat High of 105 All the people posting how it doesn't feel that hot in Southern California were being ridiculous. It is insane that Pomona with an endowment of 2.8 BILLION dollars and a cost of attendance (tuition/room and board/expenses) of $89,414 for freshman does not have air conditioning in all dorms! |
There's a ton of housing help you can get. Maybe attend the institution before bashing it. |
