Restorative justice Does. Not. Work.

It can. It just doesn’t work well in schools and the training for it is terrible.

Teachers absolutely hate it. The lack of consequences for bad behavior is fueling major burnout.

You have to be a troll. All we’re doing is consequences. There is so much documentation and procedural work. RJ is not replacing consequences. It’s in ADDITION to consequences.

Another clueless admin. who doesn’t get things are reaching a tipping point. Teachers don’t want to keep teaching when NOTHING happens to so many students. Teachers are being cussed at, attacked, and constantly interrupted by students in class, or students wandering in and out of classrooms. We see students being mercilessly bullied. We see students fighting and they go to the office and are sent back to class with some candy.

"Cussed at"? Is this in FCPS?
yes, left and right. ask your kid if they hear cuss words in 6 hour school day.

“Cuss”? Is this Alabama?

Weak sauce

I get that VA is in the South. Didn’t realize it was SOUTH South.

The attitude that helped get Trump elected.
Don’t get me wrong, the string economy and no new wars were great and all, but still.

*sigh*

I meant to type “strong” economy.

+1. Students are also being bullied and there are essentially no consequences for the bully. In fact, more students laugh at the bullying as it continues with only failed warnings or simple principal comments to ‘be kind’. The RJ attempt backfired as well.

This is the new education catch phrase to deal with problem students and it’s crap. All the teachers know it. We just want to teach.

Who thought of this?
I didn’t sign up to be a therapist.

Signed,
a fed up teacher.

Teachers are certainly quitting FCPS in increasingly high numbers and there is a major shortage:

Who? DEMOCRATS - that’s who.

If you vote for any democrat for the school board, you are literally voting to destroy FCPS.

Support teachers! VOTE REPUBLICAN!

Why isn't there restorative justice for all the Irish Catholics persecuted by the English and shunned by the New World Episcopalians and Presbyterians?

Sad but true.

The majority of FFX voters just voted against their children’s own best interests.

PBS, Responsible Classroom....blah blah blah. It's always something new, and always something that isn't even around long enough for people to figure out what the heck it is before it's replaced with something else that takes up a ton of time with "training," and a ton of money with expensive consultants.

Responsive Classroom, I meant.

Right, because all of this wasn't exactly the same before. FCPS has been like this for as long as I can remember, and I was teaching in FCPS back when it was considered a safe red state.

This is a portion of Michelle Reid’s weekly update sent to FCPS parents:

"The second initiative is our Restorative Justice Program’s new Responsible Pathway to Restorative Justice Facilitation. This pathway program will enable trained and endorsed members of Team FCPS to operate as school-based restorative justice facilitators. By this time next year, our goal is to have two of these facilitators in each of our schools. I’m thrilled about this program and how it will support us to provide excellence, equity, and opportunity for each and every one of our students, especially those impacted by discipline disparities. [i] As I shared with the principals on Thursday, I know there likely are a lot of questions about these two initiatives! More information on our Instructional Rounds and the Responsible Pathway to Restorative Justice Facilitation will be made available in the coming weeks; stay tuned!"

Do you think this is a good idea? Will this new approach increase or decrease crime in your child’s school?

You are so lucky to live in a progressive county that subscribes to this. RJ works miracles when used correctly.

It is not working in FCPS. But Reid and the school board do not care.

I'm so sorry. Even in this chain with that clueless admin PP it's so clear how broken the system is.
