| beggars are out in force. if you want to make more, get a better job instead of trying to milk someone else's money. |
Give at least a $1 for takeout. It’s like emptying your change into the tip jar. |
Nope nope nope. Baristas and bartenders, yes. I’m not freaking tipping at Subway. |
It’s getting harder to receive good table service unfortunately, but yes to 20 percent if it is. |
This is a very fair point. Thank you. |

Do the waiters and restaurants a favor. Tip in cash. |
I empty my change in my investment account. |
Why? Should they be exempt from income taxes? |
| I went to 5guys today and didn't tip. The cashier was standing there giving me passive aggressive pressure but did not give in. I was so proud of myself. |
What exactly did they do that was passive aggressive? |
Yay! I give 20% for table service about $5 for delivery. But we have become nuts and worse stupid nuts. And I agree w you: wages will rise and, yes, it’s capitalism. |
Not sure I see the diff. Is there something wrong with Subway work? They are making a sandwich for you but not a drink or a coffee…? Is a sandwich wildly different than a complicated drink or a very heavy-to-lift coffee and milk? |
Wait. Are you saying that the back-of-house employees don’t deserve some tip after making your food in hot and loud conditions? Do you offer some cash to the cooks when you leave? Do you ask them out to be complimented, or ask that they be complimented by the manager for their excellent work for you? Or just the twenty bucks to the wait staff? While you’ve thought out how the restaurent cuts are made, I don’t think you’re actually as kind as you think. Try cooking in a restaurent sometime. You’re kind of a thoughtless, self-inflated jerk. But…Bon appetite! |
Why is it harder? Customer expectations and, presumably, industry standards remain consistent, no? What is causing this? Climate change? Racism? War and revolution? What is causing table service to decline? Do tell us. |
It's what I do. a dollar for take out, or someone giving me pastries, coffee, prepared food - i consider it packaging service fee. I tip 20% as a general rule for sit down meal service or a spa. If I get particularly amazing experience with a meal or a spa service I'd tip up to 25%, but never more. If I get mediocre service, I may lower my usual 20% to 18% or even 15%. I care less what "standard" is, and all this tip prompt extravaganza on every app is a thing to be ignored. I NEVER pay a percentage for things that aren't sit down service. |
