Perhaps, but those schools don’t have the cachet of the Big 3 DC schools. Most people will ask where’s Potomac? Why is it in VA? What’s a Bullis? Never heard of it.

Let’s be honest, when people hear that you graduated from Sidwell/NCS/STA (and maybe GDS) they think “rich and smart.” Many people think “rich and dumb” when they hear Bullis. I’m not saying it’s true…it’s more perception.

The only Big Three with worldwide recognition is Sidwell.

Sidwell does not have the clout it once had 20 plus years ago. They do not have a strong presence in power broker circles or in socially elite circles. Single sex schools is where it is at and I would say the Cathedral schools are at the top of the heap.

Phillips Academy (Andover) and Phillips Exeter Academy are also known globally. However, many people confuse the two—or think that it’s just one school.

Eye roll. No one knows what Sidwell is outside the DMV. Have family members at Harvard Westlake and at Collegiate and they could not name one school in our area. They do remember the Obama girls and Chelsea went to a school in D.C. but could not name the school for the life of them.

It is a very elite circle powerbrokers and elite social groups and collegiate and brearly are listed as top 2 in the country year after year so if you are not familiar with them that says more about you than them. They attract a similar crowd to STA and NCS.

I had never heard of Harvard Westlake until fairly recently when I saw it mentioned on this board in a thread about college admits. I would not expect them to have heard of Sidwell or NCS/STA either.
