Does Baptism mean that you those who are not Baptized won't go to heaven?

As I've read so far, it's just a bunch of non-believers responding to the question with little conversation and no snark.

Quite interesting and no "angry atheists" so far.

You had to go back to 2011 to find a thread where there were no angry atheists?

The 2011 thread doesn't prove that there are no angry atheists and wasn't meant to --it discusses how some people became atheists. I found it when thinking about starting a thread on that subject and saw that it had already been done.

So why was it relevant to bring it over to this thread?

That was my question. I mean, we see a lot of hijackings along the line of, “let us all pause while I tell you why I’m an atheist.” Better to just bump that thread….

often because a religious person complains about atheists expressing their opinions here.

But that’s not what happened here. Bump the 2011 thread, please, don’t hijack this one to talk about yourself.

Why are people being told to shut up in the other thread?

Also, nobody ever answered the question: why do atheists care if someone is religious?

Actually, that question has been answered many times: because this is a religion discussion forum, where religion is discussed, and some people want to believe as many true things as possible and as few unproven things as possible.

Also, nobody ever answered the question: why do theists care if atheists discuss religion in a religion discussion forum?

DP. Please. You still haven’t answered pp’s question.

Good for you for believing what you want to believe or not believe, but that doesn’t address pp’s question. The question is about your relationship to others here: why is others’ belief so threatening to you that you’re always attacking people of faith and proselytizing for atheism on threads about baptism?

Also, obviously you atheists can and do discuss whatever you want; it’s only a problem when either you’re offensive or you hijack threads.

Are you trolling, that you’re pretending not to see this? Good job detailing a thread about baptism.

Gosh I don't see how you can say that. Maybe you don't like my answer, but it is certainly my sincere answer.

It is not threatening to me at all. This is a religion discussion forum, where we discuss religion. It's that simple.

Also, obviously you atheists can and do discuss whatever you want; it’s only a problem when either you’re offensive or you hijack threads.

Being offensive or rude, or using ad hominem is never cool, we agree there. Hijacking thread can be a problem also, but hijacks tend to spin off course than be directed as such IMHO.

All I did was answer a question in the forum: "Also, nobody ever answered the question: why do atheists care if someone is religious". I think that was my first entry in this baptism thread. Maybe the question asked was de-railing, but it certainly wasn't my intention when I sincerely answered it.

Maybe it’s atheist pp’s obsession with religion that’s so hard to understand.

When religious people here discuss religion, it’s called proselytizing and called out as bad.

Where should religious people discuss these things, if not the religion forum?

Not sure where that is happening, but if it is, I have no problem with you criticizing it - but please do directly and specifically, and not generally.

And religious people absolutely should freely discuss religion here in the religion forum, as should all people of all beliefs who choose to.

As well as people without religious beliefs.

PP here. That is what I meant, since I am one of those.

Please consider that people who do not share your beliefs - whether non-believing or of a different religion - may not appreciate prayers that people of your religion think are good and comforting - and that they have a right to express their feelings here on the religion forum.

Anonymous wrote:I can't wrap my mind around this. If we commit to the Creed that "all those who believe in God shall not perish but have eternal life," what happens to those who are not Baptized? I guess that is the whole basis for proselytizing, to make sure everyone can go to heaven, right? But if I have problem believing that God is so vengeful and would really fault babies for their parents' decisions, then it seems hypocritical to baptize my child. I don't want to commit to something in a ceremony that I don't fully endorse.

Where does that leave me? Anyone else struggle with this?

Our church (LDS) believes:

that Christ set the example for baptism (it is necessary);

that all children who die before the age of accountability for their sins (8) and adults who do not reach accountability because of disabilities go automatically to paradise (the celestial kingdom mentioned in the New Testament.) For adults who never knew about Christ and baptism, or who were not baptized before they died, we provide proxy baptism in their name, and believe that they can accept or reject the ordinance in the afterlife.

We agree that our loving God would not leave the majority of people who have lived on Earth without a solution for baptism and progression.

Thank you for answering the op question.
