"Performative?" maybe. But, do you listen to our SB members? We frequently get performances from them. Yes, her testimony was terribly offensive. That was the point. What better way to get the attention. The process you describe takes weeks--probably months. Believe me, had she gone through the "process" the books would still be there. Most parents were unaware and they would have continued to be unaware. |
Exactly this. And the people who want all these procedural hoops to be followed just want the books to remain available indefinitely in school libraries AND have no concern when the School Board itself rides roughshod over normal procedure (like Karl Frisch taking money that was expressly set aside for a new elementary school in Fairfax/Oakton and using it for an entirely different purpose elsewhere in his district). The level of hypocrisy is over-the-top. |
x1 million As are 99% of the book banning posts. They have no fcking clue what they are vigorously parroting. |
PP didn’t know that because she can’t be bothered to actually READ anything herself. She prefers to parrot misinformation from RWNJ sources. |
The process would have taken over a year. Call it what you will, but it moved the Board to act, which is amazing. Kudos to her for ignoring the stupidly complicated procedure. |
the pp you are replying to is clearly part of the (used to be a conspiracy theory) part of the public seeking to normalize porn consumption by children and committed to the destruction of their innocence. the very IDEA that children should be protected from this is OFFENSIVE to pp, and that says it all. |
| I wish people weren’t so addicted to outrage. |
I wish the school board weren't so outrageous too.

So everyone who has something they think is important should ignore a stupid or complex procedure and go straight to reading what is at a minimum adult material at SB meetings? Complete with photos? Livestreamed into thousands of homes with young kids whose parents are listening to the meeting? Literally parents with young kids around were the target audience? And she did not even warn the parents of young kids might want to turn the TV off. Because in her quest to shield the kids of FCPS from thiS content, SHE exposed thousands of FCPS kids, of a much younger age than HS, to this content. So as the parent of a 6 year old and a 9 year old who had to make a dash for the remote, and then answer questions, thanks a bunch. I filed a complaint with the FCC, BTW. Maybe a fine will help her think through consequences next time. How do I know that this has nothing to do with protecting the tender sensibilities of high school kids from gay porn? The fact she broadcast said porn live to thousands of kids. Many more than would have ever checked out the book. Since when did the right become defenders of people who broadcast porn from SB meetings? We should be able to listen to SB meetings with ES aged kids. Apparently not.
And BTW- she may have twisted the SB into knots for a week. But that’s a week we don’t get quarantine guidance, live-stream of classes or test to stay. |
So you are good with thousands of school aged kids being exposed to porn at a SB meeting because it serves the larger purpose of… protecting those kids from porn?m talk about hypocrisy. Then again, no one ever accused Trumphumpers of being smart. |

Wait, I thought the party line was that the books were fine, good even, a support to LGBTQIA+ students, staff and teachers?
Now everyone is in agreement that they are gross and inappropriate? I guess Frisch and the gang had the wrong take and have been told to pivot. Politics. It's quite a game. |
Trumpwits. Unable to draw a distinction between a Hs kid who chooses to check material out and a family with two young kids being exposed to this while watching a SB meeting after dinner. There is a difference between ES and HS. And between deciding to check. Book out and having it forced into your home. If you can’t see this, I guess it’s about what I would expect from MAGA. There was an appropriate way to deal with this. A standing committee and everything. I got the mail to see if I anted to be on our school’s committee last year. You want to discuss the process for challenging books, fine. You want to read the content you are challenging out loud in a public forum directed at kids and parents? At that point, there is nothing to protect them from. There is a time and place. Or at least give a warning that graphic intent is going to be discussed. But I guess that would take away from the self promoting shock value. |

Here is how to file an FCC complaint against FCPS Andy he speaker:
https://consumercomplaints.fcc.gov/hc/en-us Standard is: offensive as measured by contemporary standards from the broadcast medium. Since the broadcast medium is public access TV, this lady should be fined. |
Ah, the pivots to go along with the hypocrisy. Thank you, Fairfax Democrats. You always know how to take a bad situation and make it worse. |
Good for the Fairfax County Dems, making a new download available for their loyalists. An election is coming up and they will have trouble if they are closely associated with the "keep graphic material in schools--for the sake of the LGBTQIA+ population" agenda. If other school boards in areas where this book has been shelved in school libraries are doing the same, it will go better for them. |
