Sen. Susan Collins, who could determine whether Brett Kavanaugh gets a lifetime seat on the Supreme Court, raised serious concerns at a private meeting about the newest allegations of inappropriate behavior against the nominee -- and questioned why the Senate Judiciary Committee had not subpoenaed a close friend of the federal judge.

Multiple sources familiar with the private Wednesday meeting told CNN that Collins appeared unnerved by the latest allegation, citing in particular that it was a sworn statement sent to the panel, which carries with it the possibility of perjury for lying to Congress.

SHOCKING

And good for her. About time! These latest allegations are too far. TOO FAR.

Why would she name a second person who could instantly discredit her story if it were lying? It's a shame that the GOP Senators don't want to hear the truth.

Brett Kavanaugh has steadily risen through the ranks of the judiciary over years of hard work. He's had six FBI investigations, none of which turned up anything. If these women had something to bring forward concerning him, why didn't they do so years ago? It's been asked before and none of you have an answer, just more B.S. All of a sudden, when it looks like he will be confirmed, these women come out of the woodwork. Very, very suspicious.

I mean yeah. No one would bring up anything before because he wasn’t going for SCOTUS.

And reminder: Gorusch had nothing like this because he was clean. This guy isn’t. So it’s not suspicious if you take that into consideration.

Also: FBI doesn’t investigate sex crimes unless someone reports them. Any schmuck would know that.

The point is, why didn't any of these women report their allegations as soon as Kavanaugh was nominated? And Ford's anonymous letter doesn't count. She could have come forward but chose not to. And the other women, dredging up their fuzzy, unclear memories NOW, of all times? Give us all a break. If they had true allegations against him, they could easily have reported them and had them investigated over the summer. They chose not to. Moving on...

Because they suspected they would be treated abusively if they came forward.

And they were right.

+1 A trained prosecutor will be doing her best to discredit Ford tomorrow. People have dragged a fine tooth comb through her past. What woman would WANT to do that? It's victimizing her twice.

What do you call what has been done to Kavanaugh's life?? Good grief.

Well, it seems as if he has done this to his life . Through his own actions? If he had realized that there was something wrong with his behavior previously he probably would have turned the appointment down so as to not be so exposed. In that regard his schools/parents/freienda have done him no favors.
This feels very ‘Tiger Woods’ though honestly maybe he’s not still messed up?

I went to a rich school and I was in a fraternity and I drank to excess in the 1980s. I have lived most of my adult life in Washington and I know all these types. The middle class 2-fed Red Line outskirts family. The Georgetown prep / our lady of mercy family. The Burning Tree family with someone who fled west to get away. The immigrant family whose kids made it all the way to the Elite college only to be on the fringes.

I knew more than a few guys growing up who did stuff, cleaned up their act, and avoided the consequences. Lawyers, doctors, CEOs.

But they didn’t decide to pursue the highest court in the land.

These 36 years, he’s thought a million times about whether he could make it all the way despite his youthful indiscretions. Based on what he saw among his peers, like mine, he convinced himself he could. He also saw Clarence Thomas make it, Bill Clinton up close. Trump. He wasn’t as bad as any of them, so he felt even more safe.

He wasn’t.

Now, using a combination of their playbooks, he’s going for broke. With a Senate majority that’s a couple generations behind the woke, a polarized electorate, and a president without shame. He’s oh so close.

But for the sake of all the boys and girls, and men and women, wondering if it’s OK to be this way, and further to lie about it, he must go down. There are too many opposite examples and we can’t have this one more. Not this one.

Thank you. You are right. He is too much to ask of us. To look the other way is too much to ask. We refuse to look the other way anymore.

What she gets out of this is nothing she was looking for...a public grilling. Whether her story is convincing or it isn’t, she gets nothing. She is taking a bullet for the rest of us who are trying to raise good kids in a toxic environment. I am grateful she found the strength to go into the lions den.

It will take 24 women for Kav to resign.

However- if his wife makes a public statement that she is leaving him and taking the kids somewhere else because of the “circus” of this confirmation, he may have an out. I honestly think that she had no idea what his history was like and didn’t bargain for this $hitshow.

So it could just take one.

Nah - she will want scotus it just as much - if not more than him.

Women of high level operators (and she was in politics herself before) know the score

Small enough school, he would know someone involved, wouldn’t he? These alleged facts are so outrageous, wouldn’t Gorsuch have some responsibility to confirm or deny them?

I have heard zilch about Gorsuch having anything to do with gang rapes at his school, but it would be fitting if Trump’s two SC nominees were gang rapists.

NG Was and still is a lot more attractive than kavs but has that look of someone being weird around girls /thinks that sex and girls are too beneath his level.

What are the sitting judges saying about all of this; good grief.

I happily disagree with both of you. You assume the allegations are true. They are not. They are allegations. I can’t wait for him to get confirmed. The smear machine should be incredibly embarrassing to liberals. Sadly, it’s not.

sworn statements are evidence. Why are people so afraid of a FBI investigation? The desperation reeks.

I'll take it......just to wipe that smirk off the face of Mr. Potato Head (aka Judge KavaTrainRape)

I hate the way he tilts his head- it looks like it's going to fall off his neck. And the way he forrows his eyebrows is pathetic.

He hasn't smirked in awhile. Now it's just the head tilt.

Not to mention is blow dried hair.

Don't go there guys. I'm anti-Ford but let's not go low.

Ha, I meant to say I believe Ms. Ford!

Why do the prep school kids and the Ivy Leaguers like Kavanaugh et. al, who have had their life greased with privilege, think that anything, let alone a seat on the SCOTUS, is somehow something to which they are entitled. There are literally hundreds of law schools in the U.S. and we think that Harvard and Yale are somehow the only ones that produce bright legal minds? Give me a break!

Ok, Chuckie. We get it.

He won't get re-appointed if he tries to go back the Court of Appeals (15 year term, I believe). He may lose his Court of Appeals appointment altogether if the Judicial Conduct Committee investigates this boat load of complaints against him.

Sparky, this forum is lousy with seasoned lawyers--don't try to one up us--you just sound so silly. And he absolutely can be disbarred (crime of moral turpitude) you don't have to be convicted of the crime (see, Nixon).

Correction--yes, it's a lifetime appointment, but he could easily be impeached here with all of these charges. So, yes, he'll probably lose his job.
