A nothingburger doesn't force Putin to raise local armies across the country. Silly comment. "The creation of “specialized companies” to “ensure public safety” and defend Russia’s borders is now permitted thanks to new rules that the Kremlin discreetly approved last week. Officials have not specified what responsibilities specifically will be assigned to mercenaries or why they are required in addition to Russia‘s territorial army and national guard. However, the Russian president recently made a suggestion that he wants to alter the status of the numerous private military firms that operate in Russia but are not “legally existing.”" https://zambianobserver.com/wagner-suspends-hiring-as-putin-introduces-shadowy-new-mercenary-regime/ The article was from a website focused on Africa. You know, the place Putin is trying to woo. They don't seem to think it's a nothingburger? I bet a Russian deep cover agent in the US reading all of this would be super freaked out? I mean, in total fear of what would happen next and tanking up on vodka with a bucket. I hear that spies loyal to one regime don't do so well in the next? Something about can never tell where loyalties lie? Yeah. That would suck big-time. |
Wow. Seriously? Julian Assange? lol. Sorry, but the list of hundreds of murdered and assassinated journalists by Russia is more important than some washed up has-been (who will go to jail when he stops freeloading off of chumps..) |
LOL if a genuine pencildick like Eliot Abrams can bounce around DC serving one admin after the other despite a criminal record...then depend upon it, a line intelligence agent will be just fine. Besides, regimes in Russia don't change as often as here. You really come up with the most outlandish of theories. Cyprus cultural centers....deep cover agents...have you thought about writing Harlequin novels? You have the right style. |
If he's so washed up, why is the US fighting for his extradition? Where's the freedom of press, man? |
Talk to me in two years. I think the War will be over by then. Russia can't sustain this trajectory. Even if tomorrow there is a Russian counteroffensive that instantly recaptures Kiev, how will they occupy the country? Keep everyone there for years? What about the Russian soldiers killed? What excuse will the Kremlin have when the dead kids don't phone home? At that point even the Kremlin can't hide the losses. Then what do you think will happen? |
If he's so innocent, why doesn't he surrender himself and face trial? Why is he on the run? |
Nothing wrong with posting public articles from the Internet. You're free to post them too. Isn't that what DCUMS is all about? Armchair Quarterbacking in open discussion? I'm just a Bystander, after all. |
Because that's his right? Because he doesn't trust the American justice system, with good reason? |
Your theory assumes Russia will keep incurring casualties without a corresponding trajectory on the Ukrainian side. Putin never wanted to occupy the entire country. You have to look past bombastic statements and examine the actions. Read the latest Mearsheimer to understand. |
I don't think so. Russia doesn't have good soldiers anymore. Both VDV and Spetznaz have been wiped out. Their military hardware losses are extreme - more than 2500 documented tank losses. Thousands more armored personal carriers. Artillery too. Despite their initial air advantage, they can't fly anymore. Both airplanes and helicopters. There are still a few Mi-24s and similar causing damage. But they're getting shot down every week. None of this is replaceable. There is zero chance that Russia will ever be able to comfortably occupy Ukraine. This really is about how weak does Russia want to become? This is awesome for the west. Russia is destroying itself. Long may it continue. Russia gets weaker every day. Strategically, the Russian invasion of Ukraine has been a beautiful gift to the rest of the world. All their good soldiers are already dead. Now it's just the convicts and untrained mobiks. It's a meat grinder. Russia is losing several thousand young men every week. Go for it, Russia. It's pathetic, but it makes the world a simpler place. |
LOL that's where you're wrong. The bad and the dumb are dead already. What's left is seasoned and competent. And don't forget: Ukraine's casualty rate is every bit as scary. Russia is taking casualties but they are giving casualties as well. Their military machine is churning out artillery just fine. TLDR: if things were as bad as you say, Ukraine would have gotten all its land back by now. The battlefield speaks for itself. |

Russia's military has adapted and is now a more formidable enemy for Ukraine, defense analysts say

"Nearly half of Ukrainians held in detention centers in Kherson by Russian forces were subjected to widespread torture including sexual violence, according to a new report published Wednesday.
The report, compiled by the Mobile Justice Team, part of the UK, EU and US-sponsored Atrocity Crimes Advisory Group (ACA), and was set up by international human rights law firm and foundation, Global Rights Compliance, in April 2022, and is led by world-renowned British Barrister, Wayne Jordash KC. The team’s work is primarily funded by the EU. Torture and sexual violence by Russian forces: At least 36 victims from the pool analyzed mentioned the use of electrocution during interrogations, often genital electrocution by Russian guards. Other victims mentioned threats of genital mutilation, and at least one victim was forced to witness the rape of another detainee by a foreign object covered in a condom." https://www.cnn.com/europe/live-news/russia-ukraine-war-news-08-02-23/index.html Here's one thing in which Russian soldiers are actually seasoned and competent. |

This is probably a warning to Zelensky: https://www.politico.eu/article/ukraines-plan-volodymyr-zelenskyy-dies-russia-war/
There are factions in NATO that would love to get rid of him, and pin it on Russia. He seems to have outlived his usefulness, and is about to find out just how the US treats "allies." |
