They aren’t green. They’re awful. Two forty-year-olds sent on a tour and both countries announce they’re leaving the Commonwealth before it’s over?

it was a successful tour. kate and will have been all over the world -australia/ new zealand/ india/ europe/ nepal/ south pacific... they are seasoned at this and did a beautiful job. you think the goal is to keep commonwealth nations in line? the goal is a friendly relationship no matter what the formal relationship is and by that standard it was a true success

Do you really thing the islands sprung this on them? Will’s remarks were drafted weeks before he traveled. He knew what to expect. All of this was curated for such announcements.

Go read the linked article about Will’s talking points about evolving relationships. Geez.

Will and Kate are lovely, dignified people who performed well while some of their hosts acted rather rudely. The hosts look bad, not the guests.

The one woman seated next to Kate who famously snubbed her looked like a petulant child. She clearly has no grace. No class.

The reality is that the UK and their royals still matter, while these little Caribbean islands are largely still considered third world outposts that outsiders use for beach vacations (largely holed up at luxury resorts where it’s safe). Most locals live in poverty. No wonder they have a chip on their shoulder. But at some point, they need to realize they’ve had independence and can only blame themselves for their current standard of living.

As an American, it’s really horrifying to realize how poorly educated some people are — particularly the ones who think that the atrocities of the past are somehow not prologues to the events and circumstances of the present and the future.

tldr: When even Prince William is more enlightened than you are….

?

Everyone knows about the history. Colonialism. Slavery.

Should the Bidens be snubbed and treated rudely when hosted abroad? I mean, American history includes atrocities around the world…with many more atrocities having occurred in recent years/decades while Biden was in office.

Point being: when you are on display on the world stage with cameras everywhere, you behave in a dignified way.

Will and Kate behaved appropriately. Some of their hosts did not.

Historic events should not impact how you treat anyone—especially guests you are hosting.

Which hosts behaved inappropriately— in your mind? The ones who told the truth, politely and directly?

If you believe that historic events should not impact how you treat everyone, then all the more reason for William to avoid those multiple cringe-y moments of happily being carried around in sedan chairs and ancient Rovers for the white savior photo ops.

Your opinion doesn’t really matter.

You are looking through a skewed lens fixated on historic racialized colonialism if all you see are “white savior” photo ops.

What would please you? If the BRF ignored the commonwealth and avoided visits? If they showed up in jeans and jumpers with dour expressions and solely discussed the evils from generations ago? Sounds fun.

Will did address the history btw. He did it rather deftly at the appropriate time and setting.

Lol Of course my opinion doesn’t really matter. Just as your opinions don’t really matter to anyone but you. Shrug.

And yes, my lens IS skewed, as is yours. Mighty white of you to mention that. FWIW, I saw pretty dresses too — although, yes, some of them carried forth the white savior motif all to well. I’m sure they did their best though, as, no doubt, you do as well.

+1. It’s the white Karens who are like “Jamaicans and other POC need to be gracious to their white overlords”

Also let’s just get real. William has ZERO charisma. He’s even stodgier than Charles. That’s the issue and the problem and why it’s all gonna fall apart when the Queen dies. Sure Kate is pretty but she auditioned for over a decade for the role and is now playing it to a tee but we never see her. Does she have a personality? It’s like these two are cardboard cutouts. It’s a snore fest.

It still blows me away that they didnt see the appeal of Meghan and Harry - two likeable people that encapsulated progressiveness. How could they not see this?!

I think that the Queen did see the appeal of Harry and Meghan. She didn’t want them to leave. William and Kate pushed them out.

You’re sadly correct - even though i feel like if the message was clear from the top of support for M&H, w&k would have fallen in place. Also not helping w the press issues that were thrown at meghan.
Too late now!

whatever - this has been debated ad nauseum. Meghan wanted to leave. she had no intention of cutting ribbons at some rando hospital in cornwall and standing in the back of the balcony at the trooping. to say they werent supported from the absolute beginning is simpy not true. they were shuttled off to the south pacific on a tour quicker than any other married couple had before. meghan was invited to sandringham before they were even married - something no other windsor bride had done before. and for ffs charles played her surrogate dad and walked her down the aisle.

LOL those talking points were drafted after he had to give a last minute speech correction because the tour were so bad. So hastily drafted that the palaces were questioned if William had thrown Charles under the bus. He managed to get himself in hot water in all corners.

WHAT are we to make of last night's hastily drafted statement in which you could almost hear his angry voice dictating the words?

When was the last time – if ever – a senior member of the Royal Family went on record to acknowledge mistakes?

And in his statement William did just that. He wants us to see that he and Kate will not turn away from censure but rather learn from it.

It is highly unusual for a statement to be issued at the conclusion of a tour and when the cheers of the crowds in the Bahamas were almost still audible.

Suddenly, William has opened up a tricky issue. Was he casting doubts on the role of Prince Charles, whom the Queen asked Commonwealth leaders to endorse as its next head?

Palace officials have assured that this was not the case and that William was referring to his own future prospects and wanted to emphasise that he was not taking anything for granted.

Definitely too late now.

I do like to think H&M are enjoying the schadenfreude, though.

Yes, the ignorance and stupidity shown in the original PP’s post is breathtaking. Unbelievable.

Man, it’s quite something to see the delusion in action. When the Daily Mail and the rota are declaring the tour a failure, you know it was a huge failure.

Oh well I guess we know why all those sad pathetic articles about Prince William needing Prince Harry came from in 2020 and 2021. The Rota tried to mock H but they knew William was a disaster on a global stage. Which is funny because his brother has turned into quite the diplomatic statesman.

Even the staid and Very Supportive Town and Country magazine felt compelled to comment on the difficulties of the tour. The delusions are interesting though. People are firmly asserting motives and information that they couldn’t possibly be privy to — to support their unswerving narratives. It is, indeed, quite something.

It will be interesting to see if the Cambridges decide to consult a more diverse staff of advisors going forward.

Going off Harry’s interview with Oprah, he’s trying to have a relationship with his dad. With his brother it’s “space.” Harry has had enough therapy and has enough self awareness that he understands his father’s limitations and history, but he knows his brother should be better.

And he knows that Meghan was thrown to the wolves to cover up for William’s alleged affair with Rose Cantspellherlastname.

Harry always was a diplomat. He just had natural charisma, something both William and Kate are sorely lacking.

Harry had his missteps, like wearing the Nazi uniform for Halloween.

As a fellow American, I am ashamed of you. You think enslaving and colonizing a people, and stripping them of their best resources, is not going to have a lingering effect? They’ll just bounce back as soon as they have independence?

Holy toledo; I was unaware that people were that ignorant anymore.

This article says the tour was a success despite the few PR missteps which the media is fixating on…unsurprisingly since it’s the negative stuff that sells papers/draws clicks.

But don’t brush past the reality that this was an overall success. They performed well.

Newsweek had a positive review too.
