Official Brett Kavanaugh Thread

Anonymous
Attackers have the responsibility. Men and women and children are victims.
The attackers can be either gender.

I have no sympathy for women who rape either. It is unacceptable in our society. And it is unacceptable for a SC nominee to be accused of this and the charges to not be investigated by the FBI.

This is like saying that if you run for president, looking at your past very carefully is an attack. Nope.

Uh, no. This is not the same thing at all, but nice try. If the accused has his life examined in detail, then the accuser should too. It's a pretty simple concept.

If they'd cut ties last week they'd already have a new nom and they'd have ACB or Hardiman well on their way to confirmation.

Instead they will crash and burn on this over the next week only to have trump stew and wallow before making another selection... who knows it could be mid October before they even have a new nominee! Senators will have to be in DC voting on a SCJ instead of campaigning against the betos of the country giving up key time.

It just seems incredibly stupid and shortsighted for people given the gift of an unexpected second court nominee.

Perhaps, but why would they let an innocent man (because we *are* innocent until proven guilty, right?) take the fall? That's more important right now. He should have a chance to be heard, and not just withdraw with his tail between his legs. I think this is an important precedent for anyone accused - with no evidence to support the accusation. There must be a fair hearing. Otherwise, I could point my finger at anyone I wanted and claim they assaulted me.

Go for it. Point your fingers and accuse.

The truth is that supreme court nominees have been rejected for far less. ALL OF THEM WHO HAVE BEEN REJECTED IN THE PAST WERE REJECTED FOR LESS!

Gang rape? Seriously. Supreme court nominees MUST BE without question, without doubts. Do we expect they have the same politics as the president who nominates them? YES. Do we expect them to have open and honest financial records (K. does not)? YES. He was a crappy nominee before this, honestly. No one DESERVES a seat on the supreme court. NO ONE DESERVES IT.

Wow, simmer down. He has not been alleged to have taken part in any rapes, gang or otherwise, so you can shut that down right now. These are all allegations against him - with no corroborating witnesses. You can't simply expect people to make claims like that, 30+ years later, and be taken seriously. If you do, then you need your head examined.

He absolutely has been alleged to have taken part in a gang rape. Don't you read the news?

You may have read this in the news, but silly you -- you still take the news seriously? The allegations promoted by Avenetti do NOT allege that Kavanaugh engaged in rape, only that he was present at parties where it happened. The accuser, a college student, claims that she went to ten high school parties where gang rape was happening, but she didn't say a word. Until now.

Conveniently, many posters have just jumped right ahead to "he's a rapist." Honestly, these people are frightening.

Bring in the FBI! What is kavanaugh scared of? Maybe that they will find more victims? Maybe they will find where his money suddenly came from?
How about bring up his documents that are missing!

It is all unprecedented for a nominee.

You clearly have no point, only the burning desire to argue. They did their best to make sure Ford would be more comfortable, by having a female question her. Get over yourself.
Lol!

There were no other women anywhere in the eastern US who were comfortable with words about sexual assault. They had to go all the way to Arizona to find a sex crimes prosecutor.
Yes I believe!

Link to this nonsense?

Mommie and Daddy paid off debts to pretty up his financial disclosure statement in preparation of SCOTUS vetting. But they didn't clean up the sexual misconduct because, perhaps, they didn't know about it. Remember, WHAT HAPPENS AT PREP, STAYS AT PREP!

Well, when the person who is accused continues to lie about many things, and refuses to request an investigation, what are people supposed to think? He is acting guilty. When Trump is on record for saying that the trick with sexual assault allegations is to just deny deny deny, we actually remember that...

Everyone is calling for a FBI investigation. "Just believe me" is not good enough when you are up for the supreme court.

Those of you who say the alleged victims didn't come forward all these years and hence it didn't happen - if your daughter or sister has had such an unfortunate experience happen to them do you say you won't believe them unless they complain to the police immediately, go to a hospital and produce a rape kit?
Anonymous
Why is it scary that people are calling him a rapist?

Did you rape someone in the past? Are you afraid of that?

Because you know what they say: Men are afraid that women will mock them. Women are afraid that men will kill them.

Remember the name.

Forget the blame.

Excuse the shame.

Who is Chris Garrett?[/

He's the Atlanta schoolteacher who hung out with Kavanaugh and Judge in high school. Whelan had a meeting with Grassley's staff and came up with this story. Instead of denying it, Garret has gone into hiding. Rumor is he was paid generously and he has signed a letter of endorsement for Kavanaugh. Whelan has had to step down from his PR firm over it. I'm surprised PP is hanging his hat on this false claim. Here's the Tweet with his name redacted. Notice the overlap in the yearbook. https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/whelan-nutbar-twitter-thread-preserved-for-posterity

Good job all. I will never vote Republican again.

Ever-present chip on shoulder.
Unfriendly to most guys except own bro' bunch.
Mean toward most girls, except when drunk and then became touchey-feeley, hopey-gropey, hokey-pokey, drapey-rapey.
Super friendly to girls of high status with rich parents and country club peerage.

Moms and dads -- look in the mirror -- in your quest for that Lax scholarship and Ivy League admit, are you raising the next Brett Kavanaugh??????

Is his wife from a wealthy background?

No he married "down," probably due to his insecurity and unconfident nature around women when sober....and due to his alcohol and gambling addictions.....

The speculation and wishful thinking here is hysterical. Do you people write crummy novels too?

Here's a plot for great fiction.....(all denied by classmates, friends, and acquaintances)

I only had one beer.
I was a virgin in high school and college.
Mark Judge is not my friend.
I have never been blackout drunk.
I kissed Renate once.
My fraternity at Yale was a band of upstanding brothers.
I didn't receive stolen emails.
I don't recall.......
I don't remember.......
I never sexually assaulted a girl on a bed in a house in a room near a country club in Maryland in a year of a month on a day that's not noted on my calendar.......

+1,000,000

And even if the veracity of the last claim is unresolvable – and without an FBI investigation, it is - wouldn’t these other lies still be disqualifying?

I can't sit by and let this go anymore. Done!!!

This whole situation is not okay. NOT OKAY.

Fully agree with you. It's madness.

I called my son and warned him to be careful spending time with women who could turn out to be unstable.
I cannot imagine having a false allegation thrown at him.

One of the small ‘s’ sad things that happens every time there is a public accusation of sexual assault is that we have to listen to women who have so fully internalized the misogyny they were taught at the knee that their instinct is to blame the women. It’s just sad.

Yeah. Or you could just tell your son to be polite, respectful, always ask for consent, and never approach a woman who is intoxicated except to help.

Sure. And then that intoxicated woman will claim he raped her the next day because he helped her back to her dorm room or gave her a ride home. There is no winning.

Serious question - Why don't parents advice their daughters to not drink? For one, it's the law - no drinking under 21 (just in case someone didn't know that) and a drunk woman attracts pervs and monsters. Is it because, parents drink at home a lot and kids try to emulate them later in life? We are non-drinkers so trying to understand..

Serious question - why don’t parents advise their sons not to drink and explain how being drunk can lead them to assault women?

Serious question - why don’t parents advise their sons that they should never have sex with a woman who has been drinking because drunk girls can’t legally consent?

Serious question - why don’t parents tell their daughters that no matter what the circumstances, if their daughter is sexually assaulted they will support her even if she was drinking or doing drugs or at a party or with boys or unsupervised?

Serious question - how can it be 2018 and people are still blaming girls for causing their own rape by drinking? This is the equivalent of saying girls who dress sexy are asking for it.

Serious question - Do you think women should have any responsibility or just men?

No, silly! Women are just victims!

It definitely seems that some posters on this thread think that way! As a woman, I think that we need to be strong and smart and take responsibility about trying, as much as possible, to not put ourselves in vulnerable, dangerous situations. Same for men.

Why would she name a second person who could instantly discredit her story if it were lying? It's a shame that the GOP Senators don't want to hear the truth.

To be fair, the guy she named as being in the room is a guy who has written a book in which he talks about his drinking in high school and college. I'm not sure if he really would be able to discredit her story. People could just say, "Oh, maybe he was drunk and can't remember. He even wrote a book about how much he drank!"

So, I'm not sure he was ever that useful a witness. If he backed her up, great. But if he didn't, everyone knows he was drunk a lot as he himself has been very public about his drinking.

The designated Trump defender on CNN sounds like a raving lunatic.
https://twitter.com/AC360/status/1045114825280376832

Caputo started to go off the rails during a tirade against Julie Swetnick, who became the third woman to accuse Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct, alleging that he was present at a party where she was drugged and gang-raped at in 1982. Caputo’s argument was essentially the same victim-blaming tripe conservative commenters have been slinging all day: why would Swetnick even go to a party where such behavior was known to happen? And why would she wait until now to come forward?

After some back and forth with the panel’s other guest, Jeffrey Toobin, Cooper prompted Powers to answer Caputo’s question. Powers, who had been rolling her eyes in disgust during Caputo’s initial tirade, calmly demolished him.

“This [the 1980s] was a time when women simply were not believed and everybody sounded like Donald Trump and Michael Caputo,” she said, “So if you’re going to ask why women didn’t come forward, Michael, that’s your answer, just listen to yourself. This is how women got treated, this is how they got talked about.” That evidently struck a nerve, because Caputo started shouting over her.
