We are thinking of moving to McLean from Lyon Villlage but we have no clue about the public schools there. We chose our current neighborhood specifically for the schools and now found that we have outgrown our house but finding it difficult to find a larger one in our price range - $1.3m-1.4m.
many thanks |
| There are only two zip codes in Mclean and some of the schools tht are considered good and in Mclean do not have a Mclean zip code. It is better to look by neighborhoods. |
Thank you. What neighborhoods have the good schools? We may be abe to increase to $1.55 at a push. Many thanks |
| they are all good in McLean, you may want to check out 22043 that feeds into McLean for bigger house or even Marshall zoned. |
|
The following zips service schools that are better than the top ones in arlington
The zip in bold are the ones where you could pay 1-1.2 million to get a large newer/new house 22101, 22101, 22043, 22046, 22182, 22027, 22181, 22180 |
| I don't think McLean has any bad schools. As far as I know, most of McLean is served by McLean High and Langley High, which are both excellent. Generally speaking, Langley High population lives further out vs. McLean High, and it also serves a much more affluent area (although there are no poor areas in McLean, it's just that the Langley High zone is outright rich). |
| Troll post. |
| Churchill, Cooper, Langley. If you are in the GT program (or whatever they call it now), then Churchill, Longfellow, TJ (or Langley). I do not live in McLean and still know that. |
Why? Aren't people always complaining about limited inventory in Lyon Village and few options for those outgrowing current home? |
Some people don't want to send their kids to Cooper or Langley precisely because there is less SES diversity there than at any other public middle and high schools in NoVa. It's all "haves and have mores." Longfellow/McLean (or, for that matter, Kilmer/Marshall) are more like the North Arlington schools in terms of the overall SES balance. |
You say that like she's fleeing Arlington schools. I wouldn't want to live in Lyon Village either, but North Arlington's schools are directly comparable to McLean. They're practically clones. |

Thanks so much for the input so far. Confused about the troll accusation though.
I am very sad to be leaving Lyon Village and I am still hoping something will come along that will suit us there. It's a lovely neighborhood but our twins will soon be 5 and we have to make the move soon so that they are all set for school. I do not love and my husband hates the very new boxy houses. We would love a house with character both inside and out. The trouble is, we are really unfamiliar with McLean. Which parts are easily accessible to DC, where my husband works and where our oldest is at school? Also which part of Mclean will be near the new metro line? Thanks again. |
|
No part of McLean will be "near" the new metro line- the stations are on the other side of the Dulles Access Road. If you want to be near metro and in McLean schools look at Haycock (West Falls Church station). If you don't mind taking a direct bus to Balston, areas of Chesterbrook ES and Franklin Sherman ES are metro accessible (the bus goes down Old Dominion). Both areas will have houses in your price range.

hahahahaahah nice try, the best is yorktown and it's barely on par with Marshall and Madison |
If you want to be near a metro I would pick 22043 (west falls church/pimmit), 22046 (fairfax/falls church city) or Dun lorring or vienna |
